The digestive support tablet works in 3 very specific ways. First, it provides protein digestive enzymes (Bromelain and Papain) and a dose of high quality papaya that was freeze dried to preserve nutritional value. The papaya aids in protein digestion which minimizes the amount of protein that will enter the ceacum where bacterial fermentation of fiber occurs. Too much protein in the ceacum will raise the pH and support the rapid growth of unhealthy bacterial populations that cause bloat, G.I. stasis or other digestive problems. Second, it provides a full compliment of B-vitamins that are normally produced by healthy fermentation patterns. If these fermentation patterns are disrupted then B-vitamin production is reduced and this often leads to a loss of appetite and reduced energy levels. Proper levels of B-vitamins are necessary to maintain a healthy appetite. Third, it contains a unique blend of herbs that actually stimulate the lower digestive tract to naturally contract and relax in a rhythmic pattern to help optimize healthy fermentation patterns. This works great for rabbits and other small herbivores that are less mobile (don’t get enough exercise due to age or arthritis) or that simply have trouble with digestion (especially megacolon rabbits who lack the lower G.I. tract innervation necessary to stimulate muscle contraction). The herbs have been shown to directly trigger rhythmic muscle contraction/relaxation in lower rabbit digestive tract independent of nerve stimulation.

IngredientsIngredients: Papaya, Microcrystaline Cellulose, Anise, Ginger, Bromelain, Panax Ginseng, Ethylcellulose Coated Vitamin C, Szechuan peppercorns, Papain, B-vitamin Complex. (IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: Because of the strong flavors of the motility herbs (ginger, ginseng, szechuan peppercorn), your buddy may at first resist showing interest. You may need to find a way to get these different, but effective ingredients inside where they will do the good for any mild or severe digestive issues...try hidin
DirectionsFeeding Directions: For severe cases feed 1 tablet per pound of body weight split into two feedings per day. For milder digestive problems a lower dose works satisfactorily.

The chinchillas are much more difficult to convince. They have a tendency to take things they don't like in their little paws and toss them. They have shoved even small amounts away when offered.
In the meantime, Piglet (guinea pig) had a case of bloat last weekend that we worked through, so he is now getting one tablet per day as well.
Thanks for this product, Sherwood Pet Health. Hope it is never discontinued.
UPDATE: After a year of trying to get my bunnies to eat these, finally one of them decided he likes them. The other two still won't eat them, but my one that is eating them is the one with the tummy problems, so it's a relief. And I do believe they're helping.
This Sherwood Digestive Support product is probably very good. But if my bun won't eat it due to the anise/licorice smell, it makes no difference how good it is for him. Possibly if your bun doesn't know anything else, this Sherwood product may work for you. If you're looking to replace Oxbow's papaya tablets try the HRRN product mentioned above.
****UPDATE**** so we've been using these for awhile now, and we love them! My bunny definitely thinks of these as treats and gobbles them up, and as far as results go - his fur is much softer, he is more playful, and he is even more affectionate (probably because he is feeling better)! Well worth the price
As other bunny owners have written, my bunny did not run up to eat this. What I did was I left a tablet or twonin his pellet bowl (with pellets). He normally ate all the pellets except the tablet. But when I check on the bowl at night I would see the tablets gone, not in his litterbox or anywhere in the house (I have seen him eat it).
This tablet does has a medicine type smell, which is probably why my bunny was is not a fan of it, but he eventually ate it!
