Charlie would not eat or would just nibble on the food and the next day he would have such a runny stools, that we would have to return home to wash his butt, because it was so bad.
I eliminated all allergens, tried ALL natural/organic/ expensive food only to fail. On top of everything Charlie's anal glands were constantly full and they needed cleaning every week...yeah, I know...
I've tried EVERYTHING! Pumpkin cans were blocking our fridge only to get moldy, because Charlie would NOT touch the meal with a pumpkin in it. My little prince would smell ANY supplement and refused the food immediately...
Tripet by Petkind (natural tripe food) seemed to help with a diarrhea, but the anal glands were still full. I read that the main reason are runny stools not cleaning the glands properly, so I knew I had to do something.
With all due respect to the vets, but they did not help us with anything. Their solution included meds and weekly squeezing of Charlie's glands, so forget any help from the veterinarians.....in my experience the vets only guess half of the time and they tend to pump the pets with unnecessary meds instead of trying more natural ways.
Anyways I ordered this product as one of the last resorts (after trying 4 other brands). The first night I put some of the kibble on the bottom of the bowl, put a stinky wet tripe food on top of the kibble, added a teaspoon of FIRM UP and mixed with a bit of a water as recommended and with a shaky hand brought the bowl to Charlie.....and surprisingly he ate 80% of the bowl...WOW! WOW! WOW!
I was stunned, that my baby boy did not turned his head after sniffing the fiber...
The next day I packed the poop bag, a pound of wet tissue cleaner (for poopy buttocks), disinfectant for my hands, some paper towels and a water bottle and headed to the park with Charlie.....he pooped not even 5 minutes into the walk - the poop was almost completely solid leaving no dingleberry on Charlie's buttocks...YAY!
Only another dog/cat parent could understand the tremendous joy I felt cleaning up the poopie that day, lol.
I waited some time before posting a review, because I wanted to be sure we would continue to have a success and YES - it's true. This product works wonders. It's been 10 weeks and Charlie had a bit runny poops only once during those last months with no weird sounds in his tummy, no gas, no cramps. He still eats the fiber without any problems and I think it's because his digestion improved, so he's no longer afraid of food. He does have his fussy days once in a while, but he eats his dinner 95% of the time with no problems.
Two weeks ago we had a comprehensive exam and our vet was pleasantly surprised to see Charlie's glands empty. He actually asked me, if I finally learned how to squeeze them (glands).....I was so proud to reply with "No doc, I actually found a solution other than that..."...
I would recommend this product to all pet parents, who struggle every single day with digestive upsets, fussy eaters and food allergies.
This product truly helped us and this is my honest review. I know there are many good quality supplements on the market these days, but fussy pets won't touch most of those....and any supplement is good for nothing if it's not eaten on daily basis (or whatsoever).
I'm not saying this is a miracle product for everybody, but it's a natural fiber, the fussy eaters seem to like it and the stools really get solid almost instantly with no gastrointestinal upsets at all. It's not expensive and I truly think it's worth a try.
I had no familiarity with anal gland problems when I first brought home my dog. When I was a kid, looking back, my dog had this problem, but we always thought the scooting meant that she had worms. The vet never told us any different and he treated her for worms.
Now years later, my border collie has problems with anal glands. From the beginning, he always seemed to be straining when he had to defecate. It always looked to me like he was constipated, so I fed him lots of veggies hoping that this would provide some relief. His stools never seemed to be hard, but they weren't really runny either. When he started to scoot, I took him to the vet. They told me that he needed to have his anal glands expressed. They did not tell me what the underlying cause of this was, they just said that sometimes dogs just have issues like this, and occasionally he would likely need to have his anal glands expressed. They told me to give him canned pumpkin but they did not explain why. I thought it was likely to loosen his stools. I did give him pumpkin, but his problem stayed. After the second time that I took him to have his anal glands expressed, I decided to read up on the issue.
It was then that I discovered that the problem was not constipation. Instead the problem was that his stools were too soft. So I turned to Amazon to find a product that might work. I chose this product based on reviews and the fact that the ingredients were grown in the USA. (Whether a product is made in the USA says little if the ingredients are not from the USA.)
The difference was noted after just one serving of this product. Normally because of his difficult bowel movements, he does not tend to defecate away from home. I always thought it was odd that he did not defecate on walks or in the parks. Though, of course, I did not mind the fact that I never had to pick up after him. But he wouldn't go even if it seemed apparent that he needed to. He would wait to get home, because of the effort it took for him to relieve himself. But the day that I gave this to him, I took him to the park to play fetch. Not long after we got there, he decided to do his thing. He squatted and 1,2,3... it was done. His poo was the most firm that I had ever seen it. For the first time ever, it seemed painless and effortless. Seeing that his poo was firm may sound like a strange thing to be happy about. But it was so good to think that his suffering in this regard may have come to an end.
Prior to finding this product, he would wake me several times during the night so that he could go out and alleviate himself. Since giving him this product, we have slept through without interruption every night!!! I highly, highly recommend this product for anyone struggling with this, or related issues. I would recommend it preventatively as well.
