Got this for my 5 year old son to play. He thinks it is ok, but doesn't play it much. It isn't really that much fun to play as I played it to see how it was. It is a very basic game with pretty low quality graphics. If I knew what I knew now I wouldn't have bought the game.

Update: I had to up my rating on this game. When I personally played the game, it didn't impress me much. My son still plays the game from time to time. To my surprise, he still finds interest in it. He does, afterall, love dinosaurs. I am spoiled by all the new games with their high end graphics and immersion qualities. This game is simple but it teaches the kids. And it is easy to play and understand for the young ones. What really impressed me is when my son came to me and started talking about dinosaurs and was mentioning them by name! The real names. You know, the long "blankety-blank-a-saurus" names. He has apparently learned from the game and that is what we got it for: for fun while learning. Not a bad buy at this price.

You get the feel of an actual dinosaur dig and get to choose locations around the world where you want to dig: kids can learn a bit of Geography and also Archaeology. What's not cool about that. I'm not sure younger kids will appreciate the value of persistence (continuous play) to win more chances to dig up stuff, but the whole process is a learning experience for them and the controls work pretty well without too much effort, which can be a problem with some DS games. I would probably consider buying this as an app for a tablet just to be able to have a larger screen size. It's not the most user-friendly game I have watched the kids in my family play, some will need a bit of guidance before they can do it on their own, but thankfully for me, I didn't have to plow through the manual to help them out.

Fun game, educational, and has different levels of play so some are a bit challenging while others are easy. My son loves to play it, but unfortunately he finished the whole game in two days, so that would be only complaint; that there wasn't enough dinosaurs to dig up to last a bit longer. But he's decently content starting over and digging them up over and over.

I purchased this game for my 4 year old(he turned 4 in Sept 2011) in October 2011 and he finished all the levels in the game in less than 2 days of non-continuous play. Although the game says recommended for kids from age 5, I think this game would be best suited for kids from 3.5 years old or even younger as they don't have to know how to read to play the game, the game is fully narrated and once kids are familiar with electronic gaming consoles like the DS, they can figure this game out.
