Setup was simple. Install the drivers, install the software, install the battery on the pen, then plug it into the usb. I had read that there are newer drivers out there, so I went to the website and got them just in case.
The size is good. I'm using it with a 23" monitor and I am not falling off the page. I haven't explored the degrees of pressure yet, but will do when I run it with Photoshop tonight.
All in all - a good deal
I've used it to launch myself as a graphic artist for the last four years, and it's performed far beyond my expectations.
I'd say I put close to five thousand hours on this thing over the last four years. (Four years and three months to be exact.)
Now I'm a successful artist with over four thousand followers and a successful patreon.
I'm proud of this little guy.
+ Incredibly durable for such a low price.
+ Less than a third the cost of competing tablets in this size.
+ Light weight
+ Pen battery life on a single AAA is about six months.
+ Macro Keys
+ Good pressure and sensitivity.
- Drivers are terrible.
- Drivers are non-existent on the Internet. Don't lose your CD.
- Drawing pad can scar over time, leaving depressions and cuts that muck up your art. GET A PROTECTIVE COVER
- The drawing area is a bit small for some people.
- USB Cable is only three feet.
Other thoughts: My only peeve is that they are no longer in production, and can be hard to find new. For $25, the Digipro 640 is easily the best tablet you can get in this size. Great for professionals or a budding artist.
When I opened it up and installed it, the tablet had difficulty connecting to my computer. I know it was a problem with the tablet and not my usb port, since it did fine with other usb cords.
Also, changing the battery is a big ordeal. The pen is very difficult to take apart in order to replace, and putting it back on is nearly impossible. Where you put the battery snapped in half when I was trying to put the pen back together, and it requires a lot of forcing, as if the battery (that it came with) doesn't actually fit the compartment.
So now I'm left with a tablet that won't connect and a broken pen, and I'm out 25 bucks. :(
The only issue I had with the tablet is that after 2 weeks the pen and the tablet were not communicating properly. I would place the pen near the tablet and the cursor on the screen would appear to "float" around on the desktop. Once I set the pen tip down on the tablet, the cursor on the screen quit "floating" around. However, once I lifted the pen, the cursor began its mysterious trip all over the screen. After trying for various minutes to control the cursor I gave up and unplugged the tablet. The battery measured good so I do not know what the problem is at this time.
Now I cannot get it to work at all. The instructions must have been written by someone with English as a second language because in some cases the sentences make no sense whatsoever.
I did the driver installation, still no movement.
Something about the tablet or the pen has died after I've used it only once. I will not buy anything DigiPro again.
