I purchased a new Canon Powershot S95 this week and ordered the above battery as a 2nd battery for the camera. The description indicated that it is a replacement battery for the Canon NB-6L. When it arrived the packaging also stated that it was a replacement for the NB-6L & that it was for use in various PowerShot cameras, including the S95. I placed the battery in the Canon charger that came with the S95 & when I plugged it in, the charging light came on. However, the light only stayed on for 2 or 3 seconds. I made sure the battery contacts were properly aligned but the charging light still wouldn't stay on. I thought maybe it was charging anyway so I left it in the charger for over 2 hours. I took it out of the charger & put it in the camera & tried to turn it on. It wouldn't turn on at all. The Canon battery that came with the camera charges properly & works fine.

Today I happened to talk to a friend that had recently purchased a non-brand Canon battery. He couldn't get it to charge either. He called Canon & was told that they've had a design change so that some of these off-brand batteries will not charge or work in the Canon cameras. I don't know what Canon cameras this applies to, or when the change was made. However, this I know, this battery does not work in my new Powershot S95.

This "replacement" battery will not charge in the Canon NB-6L charger. The charge light comes on for about 2 sec. and then turns off. Thinking that maybe it was still charging - I left it in the charger overnight. Nothing. If you take the battery out and reinsert it - the charging light comes on for about 2 sec. and then goes out again. The charger works fine with the original NB-6L battery - so it isn't the charger. So instead of a back-up battery - I have nothing. Don't waste your money on this!

This battery seems to work as well as the real Canon battery. Amazon had it for the cheapest price I could find.

This battery works great and provides a perfect spare to keep with your camera. I cannot tell any difference between this one and the original Canon battery that comes with the camera. Buy it. You will be glad you did.

I bought a Canon SX280 at Best Buy, and this battery came with the "add-on" package (battery, SD card, and case). Even with the firmware update for the SX280 installed on the camera, you cannot shoot video while zooming when using this battery. With an OEM Canon battery, you can shoot video on the SX280 while zooming in and out, and will not get a low battery warning signal (unless the battery is actually low). With this battery, the red flashing "low battery" warning signal comes on as soon as you start to zoom while shooting video, and the camera abruptly stops shooting video after about a minute and a half or less. Powering the camera off and back on immediately after this happened showed the battery to still be at full power.

It works great! Holds a charge as long as the original for half the price. Rock solid between the original and this back-up took more than 300 pix on a Normandy Beach tour (not a place where you want your camera batteries to fail). Love it.

Will not charge in new Canon S95 charger September 3, 2011 ( May 26, 2012)

The above copied from previous review. New author purchased a new battery from \Best Buy at much greater price manufactured by Digipower and it seems to be working fine--- so far. I wonder if they are the same battery or if there is not a lower grade manufactured for the discount market. When going into an adventure where recharge is not possible one can't take a chance. But then everything seems to be a chance.

Essential to have when on a trip - charges well, and lasts just as well as the original.
