I have two of these and after 7 years one of them broke. The symptom is that everything appears to be working, even the little "activated" light...but nothing happens and no power comes out of the output (not even testing with a voltmeter). This is because the timer needs a reset.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't know this so I bought a second one. Now I have two. So I'm slightly annoyed but to be fair, the first one has given me 7+ years (I bought it in Mar 2006).
What makes this timer great are two things:
1) You can set up to 8 different times using almost* any combination of days
2) You can set up the timer by the second. This is one of the VERY few timers that supports second timing.
The downside is that it's a little bit fiddly; it may take you quite a few tries to get setting it down, but once you do, it's simple to adjust. Unfortunately--like an old alarm clock--you can't go backwards when you pass the time you are looking for. But that's not a big deal because most of us will leave this set once we have the times we need.
If you need to reset the timer daily** don't select this product unless you require a second timer. If you have to mess with it a couple of times a year, then it won't be an issue.
Another downside is that this will take up a whole outlet. But they've made up for that by giving you a second "always on" output on the timer, so you still end up with two outlet spaces.Read more ›
I would not recommend this timer to anyone having had 3 of them.
The bad: It did lose time, slowly. After about 2.5 years, it stopped working. It still ran on battery power, but not while plugged in.
Honestly, 2.5 years of daily use is a decent lifetime for a $25 product. I guess I can't say I was ripped off. I didn't call the company, as it just seemed to easier to get a new one.
This time, I bought an Intermatic for the same price.
Conclusion: Ergo Systems products never work like intended. If someone asked me what kind of timer to buy, I'd point them to Intermatic.
I purchased it for a replacement for the one on my cat feeder .
Other products were twice the money and this one lets you program down to 1 second on time.

The clock runs slightly fast and needs to be re-set periodically, but the timer portion has been flawless for going on 8 years. Nuff said.Published on January 26, 2014 by S.F.CHIP
This timer is working great for me. I am using it for plant watering and every timer I found could only set to the minute. This one goes to the SECOND!!! Read morePublished on January 4, 2012 by Smittyx2x01
Look for another timer. This one is untrustworthy. They just break. I only rated it as a "1" because no "0" is available among the choices offered.Published on November 6, 2011 by Practical

The only timer I have found which allows control down to seconds. This is needed to control a pet feeeder. Works well, but the LCD display is hard to read in direct sun.Published on September 30, 2009 by Robert Atkins
