For the price you can't beat this tach. The range specified is a little underestimated. It actually gives good measurements up to about 6 feet. I have used it to set timing and find the rpms of a fan so far and it has given approximately the same reading every time. I am very glad I bought this product. It is a little bigger than it looks in the picture, so if you are going to be using it in a tight space you may want to find a smaller one. This one is about 5 inches long and 2-1/2 inches wide.

Very prompt service of a nice low cost non-contact tachometer. It is well built, easy to use and fit my needs for tuning a marine diesel engine.

Works incredibly well for the money. Did a quick "calibration check" against an old style flourescent light (with non-electronic ballast) and got exactly 7200 RPM, which is what it should show. Using it to check tachometer accuracy and idle speed on diesel boat engines - works great.

Do be aware that you need to be able to put a small piece of reflective tape on the crank pulley for this to work - no problem in my case.

This Tachometer works very well. Especially for high RPM. If you need something to measure RPM below 1000, this is Not the
device for you. But if you need something for RPM above 10000, this will work very well. Between 1000 and 10000 is a grey
area that is hard to tell but I believe it should work fine.

the way it works is that it comes with reflective tape that you use to stick on the thing you want to measure and the reflection of the laser light off the tape is used to determine the RPM. So it will work well for something that is not already reflective. Otherwise you will need to paint it
or cover with something black.

If you run out of the included reflective tape, I heard that duct tape will work.

As other reviewers have said, this works great, and it's a fantastic price. I bought it to dial in the RPM for my engine welder. It takes about 1-2 seconds to acquire an RPM, and it tracks it about once a second after that. I found out my welder was running 300RPM slow, and I felt very confident in the RPM it read out. The price for the tachometer was less than an hour of Miller Electric shop time. I was working in full sun, so it didn't have any problem with light pollution. One warning. DON'T LEAVE IT IN YOUR CAR!!! The clear faceplate has NO heat tolerance. After one day in my car, mine is melted and warped. It doesn't affect the function, but it's still annoying, which cost it one star. Who ever heard of automotive tools that can't stand the heat of a car interior? I'm going to see if I can iron it back out and glue it back on. So keep it in the shade, don't let it get hot, and you'll be happy with it.

This product is good for the price I paid. Here is my experience, the LCD cover was loose so I had to re-glue it. It comes with strips of reflective silver stickers that you need to attach to your rotating subject. So what to do when I run out of these strips? Maybe this would work, Reflective Stick-Ons Cut'n Peel Tape, I don't know.

Then you can take your measure. It emits a circle of laser light. Read the instructions on the purpose of both buttons. I used the Test button to check the speed. The Mem button to check the highest and lowest.
Keep your hand steady or mount on a post, moving the device changes the reading.
