An action-packed thrill ride from start to finish...if you liked CBS's long running hit series THE UNIT you're going to love Ronie Kendig's DIGITALIS. Enjoy the ride and the read. I only have one question...where do I sign up for Nightshade?
Bob Hamer, veteran FBI undercover agent and the author of ENEMIES AMONG US
Digitalis is a story of skill and purpose woven with love and spine-tingling danger...that will live long past the last page. None of us fully realize the dedication of those who keep our world safe.
DiAnn Mills, Christy Award Winning author of Pursuit of Justice
Balancing a story of high action and deep emotions isn’t easy, but with Digitalis, author Ronie Kendig pulls it off with the casual grace of a truly talented storyteller. I don’t know what kept me on the edge of my seat more, the fast-paced military intrigue or the powerful tugs on my heart. Doesn’t matter: This is one pulse-pounding adventure you don’t want to miss.
--Robert Liparulo, author of Comes a Horseman, Germ, and the Dreamhouse Kings
Action, great character, romance, and faith weave together to make this story a must read.
I'd highly recommend this book! I cannot wait for the other books in this series and to get to know the other members of Nightshade.
The twist at the end was especially good. I am looking forward to reading further books in the series.
I can’t wait to read what she has in store for us with the third and fourth books!
And of course, the book has lots of carnage.
I know this book is labeled as a romance book, but I’ve recommended it and the first book in the series, Nightshade, to my husband. It’s the perfect balance of man book and sigh-worthy romance. There aren’t enough man books out there and I’m glad to finally have a book I can share with him.
I was very sad when I finished Digitalis (Discarded Heroes, Book 2) because I knew that I would now have to wait until July to reconnect with this elite group.
Having left his military career to take care of his young daughter, former Marine Colton Neely finds himself adrift. Before long, he readily joins the black ops group Nightshade and falls for a woman named Piper Blum. Will Colton survive a new romance and a dangerous mission into the blackest of nights?

When Colton returns from missions, one of the things that he does before returning home is to take a trip to Hastings, a department store. Several months ago, Piper Blum, checked him out at her register and Colton makes it a point to go to her register every visit to the store, usually to purchase towels. He is attracted to her but has not had the courage to ask her out. On one visit McKenna was with him and got separated from Colton. McKenna went to Piper's register and told her that her dad was lost. After the child and dad reunited and went to lunch, they ran into Piper in the food court. McKenna asked Piper to join them to have lunch. Afterwards, Colton, mentioned that maybe they could go out sometime. Colton can't tell Piper about his job since the team and team members are unknown by all except Olin Lambert and a few people. For this reason and because of his baggage, Colton is hesitant to get involved with anyone. What he doesn't know is that Piper also has some baggage that she can't tell him or anyone about or she will endanger a loved one. When Piper's life in threatened, Colton and his team do step in to help her although to great personal loss to Colton.
This is another fast paced, on the edge of your seat to the very end book by Ronie Kendig that will keep you up all night. Her books are intense and suspenseful with an underlying theme that reminds us that faith plays an important role in getting us through whatever life throws our way. With God's help, Colton is able to deal with his problems and forgive Piper for deception and how it impacted his life. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
- Basic punctuation (periods) was missing.
- Dialogue was punctuated wrong...beginning quotation marks used instead of ending quotation marks, new paragraphs were not used when a new speaker spoke.
- Wrong words were used..."uncertainly" instead of "uncertainty"... "sunk" instead of "sank"..."whelp" instead of "welt." Yes, you read that right...someone apparently has a puppy on her head after being knocked out.
- And then there is just the repetition and "interesting" word choice. "her caramel eyes"..."eyes snaked around the room"..."scrabbling"? I think she meant "scrambling."
This seems to be a common problem in new books. I just can't imagine how a publisher let all these things slip by! If an author has a story worth telling, it's worth telling well - including the mechanics - or it just isn't worth reading, in my opinion. I'm glad I got this one free from Amazon, and I'm sorry to say, I don't think I'll be giving this author another chance.
