The DigiTech JamMan Express XT is the most full featured compact looper on the market. It’s simple, small, and very sophisticated. With true-bypass, 10 minutes of stereo looping, Silent Clear, and Jam Sync the Express XT is a perfect looper for your pedal board or addition to your JamMan XT looping set-up. It’s incredibly easy to use with dedicated LEDs clearly showing its status. The Express XT works right out of the box using a 9V battery (included) or you can power it with an optional power supply. When looping, timing is everything; Jam Sync takes care of it. Jam Sync automatically synchronizes with another Express XT or JamMan Solo XT allowing you to create independent yet perfectly synchronized loops. Using Jam Sync you can build a custom multi-track looper or build loops with your band. The Express XT is the first looper to feature DigiTech ’s new Silent Clear feature. The Express XT automatically recognizes when you press to clear the loop and stops the loop from playing through your amp. Silent Clear saves you from reaching over to turn down your amp or your looper while you clear it. The Express XT is an incredibly simple looper and easy to use. It works just like every other looper with record, stop, play, unlimited overdubs, and undo. We made it even easier with a dedicated LED per status. The Express XT can run on a 9V battery (included) and works right out of the box. You don’t have to spend any more of your hard earned money to get a power supply just to use it when you get home. Not only is the Express XT the best, most full-featured compact looper in the world, it’s also the most affordable. The Jam Sync feature is very nice if you have more than one of these or a JamMan Solo. Just be sure to wire the loopers as shown in the manual (Inputs into Slave In -> Slave Out to Master In -> Master Out to Output) otherwise you'll end up with a weird phaser kind of effect happening when the Slave looper is running.
With two synced loopers I can record a loop on the Master pedal, then record another loop on the Slave pedal and that loop will automatically begin at the beginning of the Master loop, even if the Slave has a shorter loop length. This makes syncing easy.
If the Slave loop is longer than the Master loop, the Slave loop will start at the beginning of the Master loop, then continue playing as the Master loop repeats. Once the Slave loop is complete, it begins again when the Master loop starts.
Another thing I like to do is record a loop on the Slave looper and if I like it I'll add it to my Master loop using the Overdub feature. Sometimes I'll adjust the volume on the Slave unit so the overdub fits sonically. Then I can clear the Slave and use it experiment with another loop.
Don't even think about trying to run this off the 9V battery (included.) The power supply you want is the HPRO PS0913DC-01. Unfortunately Digitech buries this info in the downloaded manual and it's nowhere to be found on their website.
This looper pedal appeared to be well built, looked sharp, and gave highly recommended. The problem is that it stops working / turns off repeatedly while playing with a Battery. Don't use a battery.
Out of the box it looks great, and comes with simple instructions.
Here is the problem: it works for a few minutes, then stops and all of the lights flash. Your record maybe two - three loops
I am happy with it and use it live in a 3 and 4 piece band situation to cover rhythm parts when I am soloing and for harmonized double lead passages. Excellent quality. It has a lot of great syncing features but I do not use those. Find a youtube video to see all of its potential. Best looper for the money.
I have found the True Bypass feature to work in excellent fashion. I have NOT experienced that the volume knob acts more like a gain control.
A few things that could be better and hence resulted in 4 rather than 5 stars:
-- The battery life has usually been VERY short (enough for one lengthy session). I purchased the recommended 9V DC power supply, and it has been very helpful, except ...
-- The plug for the DC power supply does not fit very snugly, i.e., it is easy to accidentally pull it out. So, if your battery is dead (or you don't have one) and the DC power supply gets pulled out, you lose whatever you had stored.
-- The battery is not easy to get to -- you have to unscrew the bottom plate to get to the battery compartment. And it is really easy to get the batter wires caught when you put the plate back on.
But when all of that power-related stuff is working as it should, this looper pedal is super fun. It's given me a quick and easy way to work on self-accompiment.
