Hello! Thanks so much for your interest in me and my books!

I grew up in Upstate NY with my parents and 2 sisters, whom are featured in many of my books, including "Dim Sum For Everyone!" and my novels, "The Year of the Dog" and "The Year of the Rat." My mother and I were the star characters in my first book, "The Ugly Vegetables"--I cut both my sisters out of that story! They were quite upset with me and made me promise never to cut them out again. And since then, I haven't...yet.

While many of my books highlight my family, not all of them do. My Newbery Honor-winning novel "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon," is an Asian inspired fantasy that some people call a Chinese 'Wizard of Oz,' and my early reader "Ling & Ting" is inspired by the old 'Flicka, Dicka & Ricka' books I read when I was young.

I hope you enjoy my books. Please visit my website: www.gracelin.com for more info about them (behind the scene stories and pictures) as well as other amusing anecdotes!

Bought this for a two-year-old. She was enraptured by the drawings, which look like her family, and the text, which refers to parents as "Mama" and "Baba" (traditional terms in Chinese). And she was thrilled that one character is called "Mei Mei" (little sister), just like her.

Text is deceptively simple. It's actually hard to write a picture book this simple and clear. Interestingly, I though the five-year-old would be too old for this, but he liked it too.

(The final scene of the book shows an ethnically diverse array of families all eating dinner at the dim sum restaurant, so it's a nice inclusive option for ANY kid growing up in diverse community to be able to see themselves.)

My oldest is a super picky eater. I bought this book after reading that it could help to talk about food in order to help picky eating. It helped! My 4 year old got excited about the new foods he saw in this book and tried some of them. It has colorful animations that my son loves pointing out different things on, and it’s short and sweet. Definitely recommend

"Dim Sum for Everyone!" introduced me to author Grace Lin. I have now read two other books by Lin.
Banned book "A Big Mooncake for Little Star" and Newbery Honor book "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon", which I highly recommend.
My Grandkids and I loved "Dim Sum for Everyone!".

Got this book a month or so in an Amazon book subscription box for my 17 month old. I got the subscription so we could get some books that may not be on the radar, and this is definitely one that fits the bill. I do want him to have exposure to other cultures and we eat A LOT of all types of Asian food, so I figured this would be a good one to keep in our box.

It arrived and I was a little underwhelmed. As another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't really explain a ton about dim sum (in a kid friendly way in the body of the book). The sentences are really short and the book is quite short, even for a book for a toddler.

All of that said, my son LOVES this book. He gets to select his own books at bedtime (out of maybe 15-20 available in his room), and he is currently pulling it out on a nightly basis as one of the top 3 books we must read...again...and again...and again. ;) I'm not sure what he loves about it, but he does. I am considering getting others from this author if only so I can read about something other than dim sum every night of the week. ha, ha! Who knows if he's grasping anything about dim sum, but without a doubt, he loves this book.

The book is probably 2-3 stars from me, but I'm not a child. ;) He'd give it a 6!

This is a great story for everyone. It isn't very long so it's a good bedtime story too. It taught me and my son what Dim Sum is. I had no idea! We became so enamored with it that we actually went and got Dim Sum one day. He didn't eat any of it but I was kind of happy about it because I got to eat all of it!

I'm wondering if there is a Dim Sum fusion restaurant, where you can order a bunch of different dishes but they come in gargantuan sizes like at Cheesecake Factory? That would be delicious! Imagine a plate with 10 dumplings on it!

You will be transported to a typical bustling Cantonese dim sum restaurant when reading this book. A mouthwatering book that introduces children to some classic dim sum dishes: turnip cakes, fried shrimp, sweet pork buns, sweet tofu, and egg tarts. A must for foodies and dim sum lovers!

My daughter LOVES this book. Simple text, beautiful illustrations, just a really lovely book about a Chinese family going out for dim sum and the different dishes they pick. We spend ages on the first double page spread which is an illustration of lots of different ingredients and their names and we play "can you find the soy sauce/ scallions/ taro/ ginger/ teapot..." Great for vocabulary building. Also good to see Chinese girls represented in books just doing normal family stuff.
