Achieving success is a very personal challenge in the twenty-first century. Trial and error is neither the best nor an efficient option anymore. The most efficient way to find your way to the top is with a structured approach that accelerates the process by stressing a conscious self-awareness of what you really want in life.

From Author, David E Nielson
This book is about a number of important concepts; at a meta level, it is about awareness and consciousness. Mostly, it is about the right combination of structure and conscious behaviors required for success, especially in all endeavors with others. You will read about practical actions you can take to be more effective when interrelating with others to achieve success.
It is also written for Millennials, those that manage Millennials, and anyone who wants to achieve success in life and career, 9DCS addresses the dilemma of how to achieve conscious success in order to realize your purpose in life by outlining a practical process model to achieve individual success.
Why is it important to begin with these two elements? Because until you know your real purpose in life and understand who you are as a unique individual, the success you pursue could end up being the flavor of the month. David follows with the third foundational element--social awareness. This is where you watch the environment around you so that you are aware of how people are affected by what you say and do. Remember, relationships are just as important--if not more important--than results.
Once you have the elements that form the foundation for success--a sense of purpose, a sense of self, and an awareness of how you affect people in the social systems around you--David introduces six differentiators that will help you transition from where you are to where you want to be. Three of these jump out at me.
- Listening. I've always liked the saying 'If God wanted us to speak more than listen he would have given us two mouths.' Listening is a skill most of us need to work on.
- I also love that David includes Humor as one of his six differentiators. To me, the most successful people take what they do seriously but themselves lightly. Humorless people are just not fun or interesting to be around.
- The other differentiator that really resonates with me is Gratitude. Research shows that when you are in a stressful situation, if you stop and think about what you are thankful for, the stress will subside. Stress and gratitude cannot exist together.
Thanks, David, for showing us that we are our best selves when we realize there is a better way than trial and error to plot our course in life and achieve our ultimate level of success. --Ken Blanchard
This is a must-read for anyone interested in living a life filled with successful, fruitful, win-win relationships both personal and professional. --Jeff Gubala, V.P. Mutual Funds and Managed Accounts, Westwood Holdings Co.
I highly recommend this book to individuals and groups to use as an effective tool for self awareness and collaborative conversations. --Faye Gilbert, PhD, Dean, College of Business, The University of Southern Mississippi
The lessons in this book will serve any reader well, as have all of my engagements with David Nielson. --Kathryn King, PhD, Vice President, Clinical Research, Levo Therapeutics, Inc.
This book and the Conscious Success Assessment are great tools for anyone in business today. --Michael J. Menard, President, The Gensight Group, Inc.

The adult reader too will easily glean ideas and information that can guide and help in planning for their day, year, or the decade to came. But of course, it's all in being receptive and willing to follow through with these kinds of books. This book makes it easy.
I especially liked the readability of Mr. Nielson's book and unlike so many self-help books it is never pretentious or lofty and yet never dumbs down the reader, It's a fun book to read AND re-read with highlighter in hand.
Mr. Neilson has, according to his bio, managed to put his life's observations and experiences to practical use for us all to use into a very good book.....and it works.
Perhaps every college freshman and graduation senior will be given this book......or better yet, offered a 'mini-course' of "9 Dimensions" in their college curriculum to kick start a (or might be) great productive successful life for themselves.
I challenge everyone to read Chapter 5, "Authenticity"........

David’s writing style is personable, interacting, and full of real-life stories and examples that I can relate to. The book takes us on a journey to be present, be noticed without being flashy, and how to experience personal success. One of the keys to the book is his framework for Conscious Success. Moreover, the Conscious Competence model is a continuum that explains how most people learn and how we can become more aware of how others learn and implement knowledge.
David was curious about what drove people whom he deemed successful about what they felt are the elements of a successful leader to help us grow and develop healthy habits. His informal survey asked five key questions, and he compiled the results. In the end, he didn’t throw out any of the factors because they are all critical. The categories ranged from purpose, knowledge, self-awareness, and social awareness – 12 elements in all. All or any of these factors are critical to success, and because we are so individual, we will dwell on some factors more than others. In short, there is no magic bullet, we are all unique, and each piece is critical. It’s like putting a puzzle together – but it’s our own puzzle.
Throughout his experiences and research David developed a Conscious Success Model.
3 Elements + 6 Differentiators = 9 Dimensions of Success
It’s a practical and easy plan for us all to use and many of us may be implementing pieces of it today without realizing it. He determined that our success foundation contains the following elements:
3. Social Awareness
These elements are the solid foundation for defining your success. He also identified six differentiators which together make up the 9 Dimensions of success.
2. Work Ethics and Personal Responsibility
3. Listening for Results and Connections
4. Articulate for Impact
If you notice, Purpose is a crucial foundation for your success. When you know it – share it when you are comfortable doing so. From there, set annual and long-range goals, consider personal development plans, and most of all LIVE YOUR PURPOSE.
We are all unique in a busy world. Whether we like the idea or not we need to sell ourselves every day, and it’s not comfortable. As cold as it may seem, think of yourself as a commodity and discover how you can best differentiate and sell yourself to live out your purpose. David offers some effective tools to help us along similar to the 5 Ps of marketing. He provides the 5 Ps of YOU:
1. Presentation - Impressions count folks, and you need to outwardly live your brand
2. Proper Placement – How are you placing yourself in the market? Will the job that you have now position you for the future? Do you have the right skills?
3. Active Promoting – Are you putting yourself out there networking and meeting new people? Building your centers of influence?
4. Profit/Value – Know your value to yourself, others, and your company. What are your skills worth?
5. Perceived Gain – What will people gain by working with you? It’s not always about you but what you can offer as well.
The 9 Dimensions of Conscious Success is an outstanding book to not only develop your skills and growth, but it will help articulate how you come across and sell yourself to others. I finished this book in one sitting because I lost myself in the ideas and possibilities. David E. Nielson offers real-life examples and how implementing his models will have an impact on your life. There are action steps and lessons throughout the book. The book is down to earth filled with humor and the many mistakes that David and others have made during their leadership and life purpose journey. This book is a winner, and it should be one that you pick up today to start your journey!
