ArborGard tree trunk protectors are an affordable and effective way to protect trees of any age from damage. Made from 100% recycled materials, ArborGard is flexible enough to wrap around small or large tree trunks. Provides inexpensive protection for young trees against damaging string trimmers, other gardening tools and equipment, as well as, rodents and other small pests. No more unsightly black pipes around the base of your trees with our 9 inch tall coils that were developed in an attractive grayish brown color to blend in with most tree bark. The round tube form supports itself and will not lose its shape in hot sun, unlike other tree guards that are manufactured flat. The slotted design allows airflow around the tree and protects against bark rot. For trees larger than 4 inch diameter, connect two or more coils using the handy expansion tabs. Manufactured from 100 percent recycled plastic materials. Pack includes six 9 inch coils. Also available in 12 packs and 100 packs.

These Are The Best Tree Guards I've Tried

I've used tree wrap, those white plastic spindly things and chicken wire fencing. These ArborGard trunk protectors performed the best. I use these for fruit trees in my orchard. I like the fact that you can connect multiple ones together to suit larger trunk trees. Now I can use the string trimmer without worrying about damaging my fruit trees. These do a great job in protecting the trunks. I've also noticed no more rodent damage to my trees because the very bottom of the protector has prongs that can be pressed into the soil forming a nice barrier. Highly recommend these for orchard use. Only downside is that you will need a lot of them if you plan to use them for larger caliper trunks.

A pain to snap together

These protectors will do the job but I found them overly cumbersome to snap together with no way to taper the diameter into a slight cone shape so that they fit securely around the trunk at both the top and bottom. I ended up using garden fence wire instead and was able to cut it to the exact length needed and fasten it securely using cable zip ties rather than snapping together 3 or 4 of these things which was clumsy; additionally, some irrigation drip line stakes worked better for securing the fencing to the ground than the bottoms of these things.

Very Difficult to Snap Together

Purchased twelve of these to protect three trees in my front and back yard. I encountered a lot of difficulty in snapping the two sides together once the device was around the tree trunk. In the end I used a pair of needle nose pliers to force the two ends together so that they would not separate over the winter.

Had I to do it again, I would have ordered the longer black tree trunk protectors. More expensive however much easier to install and you can cut the black units down to fit the area that requires cover.

Not great but doable

Don't let the picture fool you. I read other reviews but decided I wouldn't have the same issues. Well I did and I didn't. It is very short, but that's ok because saplings are usually short and you do want your tree to stick out above. It says it expands, but it's rolled like paper towels on a roll, so even when it's unrolled it wants to stay rolled since it's plastic. It is pretty firm plastic for how thin it is. The snaps are just wider that you have to shove into the holes that is not easy to do. I just put these on so I'll have to see if they actually keep animals from eating my trees. These weren't what I was expecting but being as cheap as they were compared to other tree guards they aren't that bad. And I saved myself a lot of frustration by just putting them over my tree as they came rather than trying to unravel or snap.

Inefficient and costly

not an efficient design which would spiral up the trunk and cover about 3 linear feet. Instead, each piece covers about a foot so if one is wrapping a sapling to protect it from deer antlers the product is a poor alternative.

These are my favorite tree guards I have tried. The plastic seems relatively sturdy and the design isn't ugly on the trees. I do wish that they were slightly longer, as several of my young trees were just a bit too large for a single guard. It is easy enough to link two together, but I would happily pay a little extra for a slightly longer guard

Works well for medium trees but not as well for tiny trees. You need to use something to make the tree protector stand on its own if you are using it with a very small tree. Also the tabs are a bit too large to fit into the holes.

Healthier for the Tree Than Corrugated Pipe

These collars are much better than using corrugated pipe. The vented design helps to avoid dampness and fungus buildup around the tree trunk.
