UPDATE!
After several conversations on the phone, I happened to try again to link my switches with HomeKit, and they worked as expected. My only complaint is that I spoke with several people and made it clear that I wanted to be updated when the problem was resolved, and that I didn't want to have to call periodically to check on the status, consuming more of my time than I though was necessary. Thankfully, I was trying to link them with HomeKit about once a week, so luckily I was able to learn that the problem was fixed, but a call or email would have been nice. Either way, I gave it 4 stars because it is working, but the long press feature in the WeMo app is not replicated in the HomeKit App. It would be nice to use that trigger in the HomeKit app for automations.
HomeKit but there’s a catch… If you’re lucky enough to receive the model that has the HomeKit code in the little installation manual as well as works with HomeKit on the front of the box then you don’t even have to continue reading this review. However, if you’re like me and you receive the one that says work with Nest you were frustrated until you realize something interesting buried inside of the WeMo app. Once fully configured and you go into the WeMo app you go into the menu MORE, SETTINGS and ABOUT. Then go into the menu called HARDWARE INFO, then you will see the list of WeMo devices that are installed. When you click on the one that matches what you named it when you installed it you see a list of all sorts of parameters. Noticed that there is one that says HomeKit SetupCode. That’s your HomeKit code!! When you go back into the Home app and add an accessory manually and tell it that you don’t have a code or cannot scan in the code, then you have to enter it manually... voilà! It works like a charm! Not as straightforward as if you had the code to start with but you do not have to return it and you don’t have to tear your wall apart one more time.
Now I did notice something interesting about the dimming. Mine is in a ceiling fan that has dimmable LED lights and yes, I did choose the proper bulb type when I installed it. The dimming affect from the home app does not appear to be a smooth as the dimming effect from the WeMo app. Seems to be slightly “flickeryer”, and yes I made that word up. LOL... other than this I have zero problems which is why I gave it four stars. Making me hunt for the code you get one less star!

So after install the switch worked. Then I tried connecting to my WiFi... 2 hours later or trying the same steps over and over again, it finally connects. Great, the hard part is over.
While calibrating my bulbs as suggested, I noticed it dims only a small amount between its range of 1 to 100. I mean, I had this light on a dinner before this, and it dimmed a lot! I didn't even get a 5% difference. So I recalibrate and reset the dim level manually.. turns out this thing sucks at dimming.
Tried a different light, different bulb. I get hardly any dimming effect.
Then spent 35 min trying to get the firmware update prompt (no force check available). This didn't help either.
So I was thinking this one was a dud, I bought 2 and swapped them. No changes..
TL;DR
Takes forever to get WiFi connection working, install easy, dimmer sucks and is worthless on LED and compact fluorescent bulbs.. sending both back for refund...and yes all my bulbs were dimmable

The tests that Belkin will make you go through before issuing an RMA are exhaustive. They will make you test several things over several hours of phone calls before admitting any issue. Reinstalling the app, updating firmware, resetting your router, etc.
Finally they authorized an RMA and expected me to pay for the post to return the item. After complaining they decided to accept the charge. They sent me an email confirming the issuing of the RMA and a month after I still have not received the replacement unit that they have promised to send before I send the defective unit back.
When I first installed this item I though i would have one in each room of my house, now I will never buy a WeMo or Belkin product ever again.

I am not an electrician whatsoever, however, I have replaced a few light switches before and the instructions were clear enough for me to do the install within 10-15min. Integration with Alexa was a breeze as well.
The fact that this switch is dimmable is what sold it for me. I did not want a simple on/off switch. Wemo has a number of other features (which I don't really use) which make it a worthwhile investment, however, for me, the only feature I really wanted was the ability to dim using Alexa.
