Other than greed for profits, why does Dingo make these in China? If they offered a "USA made" version I'd be willing to pay $2 or $3 more and I suspect most other people would too. I've dealt with Chinese manufacturing for years and let me tell you, there are lots of corrupt companies there that will put anything into their product if it saves money. There is no such thing as "oversight" there... all you have to do is pay someone off to look the other way and that's just the way things are done quite often.
If Dingo at least had an independent lab here in the US routinly testing for harmful chemicals and posting the results I might think about buying them... but again I suspect it's greed that they don't.
In addition each of our facilities, including China facilities, is compliant with Global Food Safety Institute requirements and is verified by internationally recognized 3rd party auditing firms. This certification is equivalent to that of human-grade consumables.
Your concern regarding Chinese manufactured products is understandable. We hope that the information provided here helps to ease your concerns so that your dog may once again rip into the flavor of a Dingo rawhide chew. If there is any other information we can provide please reach out to us at PHGAmazon@spectrumbrands.com. We are here to help in whatever way we can.
I've ordered these twice now and both times my pup has loved them and had zero issues after eating them.
Cautiously hopeful the quality will remain the same and I won't regret my decision to stick with these.
Second reason, these are cheaper, when you consider I have to go around taking the bony style ones away when they're half done. (Slimy - Yuck).
So, Cheaper, and safer, but the dogs still love them. Win, Win. : )
The bags generally have some sticks that are larger than others and so when it's time for everyone to get a Dingo I sort through and pick the larger for the big dog and smaller for the smaller dogs. The smallest dog likes that I soak his in water for about 5 minutes to soften it and then start to unwind it just a little to get him started chewing.
They apparently are much more exciting to chew on then a plain rawhide treat. I do not find they pose a choking hazard but also always keep an eye on them when they are chewing them. Not once have we had an incident. They can be chewed surprisingly fast, I keep the bag of them in the freezer and that slows the chewing down just a little. My dog's favorite treat.
That's why I buy the BIG bag!
UPDATE AUGUST 2015: Soon after I wrote the review above, the dogs stopped liking them. So for almost a year the three dogs in our family quit even picking them up. I always kept the packages sealed, as I wanted to keep them fresh. Today I finally decided to look at the package, and there are little tiny black spots on the sticks. I shook the package and took a photo. Some are bigger black things, the size of a peanut. They don't look like bugs, as I don't see feet or a mouth.
I talked with tech support of Dingo, and he said he never heard of such a thing happening. So sending letter with photos to him, hoping to be reimbursed with them. My dogs used to love them. And now I learn they are made in China, which it says on the label. It also has sorbitol, which gives humans (like me) diarrhea. Good thing I'm not chewing on them, too!
UPDATE AGAIN, SEPTEMBER 2015: Figured out that I purchased them in 2014, and not positive they were the exact ones I purchased from Amazon. I told Dingo that, and to forget about any problem with them. Today I received two 50 piece packages, and a package of Dingo Market Cuts chicken jerky. My dogs still won't touch the Dingo twists, but one likes the jerky. The jerkys are make in USA.
