If the reader gives an incorrect answer, a prompt will be given so they can guess again. For example one gives the hint, "Many dinosaur books show me fighting with a Tyrannosaurus Rex." This feature not only gently reminds children they have not made a proper selection, but also gives additional information about the dinosaur. Even if you have a dino genius, you might suggest a bit of exploration to find additional facts by hitting an incorrect answer.
DINO FAST FACTS
~ The name of the dinosaur with the pronunciation
~ Its nickname
~ When it lived (Creataceous period,
~ Length (both in meters and feet)
~ Height (both in meters and feet)
~ Weight (both in kilograms and pounds)
After the "Dino Fast Facts" is a short "Did You Know" section with an interesting fact about the dinosaur. An image of the specific dinosaur follows the text. A prompt then urges the child to head to the next question. One of the nice things I noticed was that each word in the text is defined at the bottom.Read more ›
This would probably not be the best introduction to dinosaurs for younger kids, but a good one for the smarty-pants types who are no longer challenged with the basics. Make no mistake: this book is intermediate to advanced. I missed a lot of these and I suspect even some dinosaur geeks would have a little trouble because this is meant to be challenging. The author includes some easy guesses, but he also includes some very obscure dinosaurs that even the average college graduate (unless they are paleontologists) have never heard of. Recommended for above-average readers as there's really no way for it not to contain those L-O-N-G scientific names.
The author picked up a large number of vegetarian dinosaurs and created an interesting quiz book. Once you reach the correct answer, you get a picture and other details about the dinosaur. This is a fun way of reviewing what one has already studied/read abut them in other books.
A one-paragraph intro in addition to the data-sheet with each dinosaur would be greatly useful and I am sure the author can add it without any problem.
*** An "interactive" book meant for activity, not simple reading
*** Real fun/knowledge activity
*** Useful for parents as well as children
*** Highly recommended
