My 4.5 yo LOVED digging out these fossils and was very interested in learning about the different animals that created the fossils. Digging them out can be a little tough for little ones, but if you spray/pour water on the block, it gets a lot softer, making it easier to chip it away to reveal the fossils. This occupied her for about an hour, chipping them out, washing them, looking at them, learning about them from me reading the booklet to her. It's a little messy, so put down some paper or do it outside, but it was well worth it. She loved it and now talks about the different fossils (especially the shark's tooth, dinosaur tooth and the trilobite). These are real fossils, some look rough like they just came out of the ground, others are more polished, but they are real. Very cool

Two hours of fun..until the one item my son wanted to find was not in the kit. He had 14 fossils and he loved digging until he couldn’t find what he was looking for…then he was devastated. I tried calling the number on the kit, but no one answered. I reached out to help@natgeotoys.com and received a message within 24 hours. Excellent customer service. I hope the replacement kit contains the infamous tooth! Only time will tell.

Excellent quality fossils, all of them decent size. They are beautiful, incredible quality; the tooth is amazing. Holding them in our hands was simply magical... you are holding millions of years in your hands. They were also excellent size -- the biggest one was almost 2 inches long, smallest one is the size of my thumbnail; all easily identifiable. I used a pizza box restructured to hold all the mess (moved the lid as a second layer on bottom -- see photo), and it was perfect. We followed the directions of the box and used water in order to minimize dust; a little water poured on it made it very easy to remove and less likely to damage the specimens. It turns into clay. Took me about an hour and a half to finish. I am a grade 7 teacher and these will bring evolution to life in my classroom. I am very excited about showing them to my students. My favourites are the ammonite -- a good inch long -- and the coprolite, which is about one and a half inch of perfect little dino poop (looks like the poop emoji, so cute for goodness' sakes!) I'm now in the process of preparing a slideshow with the awesome information from the National Geographic booklet, putting these in geological order of older to newer.
