I don’t post reviews often, but this one seems worthy. I teach Earth/Space science, so I’m always on the lookout for good (real) fossils for my classroom. I tend to buy them when I go to caves or state parks, from the gift shop. This kit was really fun to break apart with my kiddo (2nd grade) and delivered exactly what was promised. I’ll put them in his collection, and sneak them away to use in my classroom.

1. There's no indication of what the fossils are.
2. This pack is intended for age 8+, not made clear.
3. This pack is described as Mega Fossil Dig Kit – i cant imagine their small fossil dig kit.
The actual size of the part to dig measures 6" square . VERY small

We paid £29.99 reluctantly as it seemed very expensive but our children are working on dinosaurs/fossils for school so felt it appropriate. We were all really pleased with the product. It kept the children (6&5) entertained for a good couple of hours, and me too! They were really excited to have real life fossils and used the enclosed booklet to help identify them. We only found 13 fossils initially, no mosasaur tooth which was much anticipated by the children. I contacted the makers of the product and a replacement was with us within 24 hours. Really impressed with the product and the service. Definitely recommend.

Bought for my 5 year old son for Christmas. We found 16 fossils, although one is unidentifiable and we didn’t get any dinosaur bone. There are some quite cool ones though. Inevitably, I ended up doing most of the digging as it does take a fair amount of effort to excavate. I used the end of a wooden spoon as the tool supplied is for small people’s hands. It’s very messy but part of the fun. Would definitely recommend

Can't fault the digging process as that is always a win with little ones.
We got all 15 fossils, the issue was, was that they were damaged or looked nothing like the images so it was difficult to tell my daughter what they actually were.
Very poor quality ammonite, the best thing about it was the Orthoceras.
White urchin was damaged so had to guess what it was etc
For the price of the kit I would like to be able to know what the fossils are.

Don’t expect what’s on the box

This is the second National Geo dig kit I have got from Amazon. The first was the Gem stone kit. These were bought for my daughter who gets so excited about what she sees on the box. However on both occasions the most desirable Gems or Fossils are not in the box and the advertised quantity on the box is not the amount you get. For instance with the fossil kit, the Dino tooth is missing.
Amazon are not helpful in this either as they distance themselves from it saying it has to be returned to Nat Geo and therefore you cannot get a replacement until the parts are scooped up boxed and returned.
