The Kennedy Publication Directory of Executive Recruiters used to be updated annually - it was hands down the best industry "bible" resource. But the company was sold and what is left is seen at kennedyinfo.com. Many people don't understand how recruiters work nor the different types of recruiters: corporate (in-house), executive recruiters (VP's and above; some are also now in-house) and contingency agencies. Each has a different business model. As a candidate, you can send them your resume by email (not paper) so they can upload into their database which has a keyword search function. These databases have thousands of resumes from all over the world - there is no way they could response to each resume submittal. Recruiters usually will not contact you UNTIL they have a potential fit of your skills to a job opening they have for their client. Recruiters work as middlemen trying to make sure both parties are fairly represented and matched by skills but ultimately get paid by the corporation. Some recruiting firms specialize by industry (high tech, consumer packaged goods, etc) or by function (finance, marketing, engineering, etc). Some do both.

The recruiting industry, especially high tech executive recruiting, had been hit hard after the dot com bust. Many never recovered or those recruiters retired or changed careers. The 5 major national executive search firms would be:
Korn Ferry
Spencer Stewart
Russell Reynolds
Heidricks & Struggles
CTPartners

I used this book to mail hard copy resumes and cover letters to all 300+ firms listed in my industry. So far 20% of the letters have been returned because the addresses are no good. A majority of the recruiter contact phone numbers listed to not work. Also the publisher Kennedy Information, LLC has had all of their listed phones (Main Headquarters phone: 800-531-0007 or 603-924-1006; NYC office: 212-563-6054) turned off.

Do not waste your time or money with this book.

Kennedy feel free to contact me if you want to discuss, because I am unable to contact you.

For me this is the first book I go to when looking for another position. I also call ahead before sending out the cover letter and resume to make sure the person they have listed is the correct contact list. As you know by the time a book goes to printing it could be 6 months later.

This product was a waste of time and money. I sent letter to 50 recruiters in the Dallas, Texas area and only one sent me an email.
I would not consider this a list of professional recruiters.

This is an excellent listing of available Executive Recruiters. However you will find you need the addition of Kennedys Pocket Guide to Working with Executive Recruiters to get maximum benefit from the directory.
