If you need component video output from your crappy little DirecTV Genie box, this magnificent cable will save the day. Good for full 1080 HD. The cable is a bit on the short side, but the gauge is excellent and the results are as good as you can possibly get from component. I use mine for Slingbox, but these are more geared for analog-only high definition display devices, such as CRT projectors, HD CRT televisions, and HD CRT rear projection televisions/monitors. They can also even be useful on a digital set if you're all out of working HDMI inputs, or if HDCP is not supported.

I used this to be able to hook a chromecast and DirecTV receiver to a TV with only one HDMI port. Now the chromecast is in the HDMI and the DirecTV is using the component input. Works perfectly. I read an earlier review that this only lets the DirecTV Genie display in 1080i which is true, but that is because only certain DirecTV channels broadcast in 1080p. According to the DirecTV website, thats only the Cinema channels, and since I don't watch those I cannot tell you whether this supports 1080p or not. It is known that component cables do not officially support 1080p, but there are plenty of cables that will still display 1080p content even though they don't support it but again, I can't confirm that.
Since I am using this on a 24 inch television, I do not see any noticeable difference between an HDMI cable and this cable as far as picture quality is concerned, but your mileage may vary.

These cables work great. Needed to go to RGB when the satellite company activated HDCP on all channels. This shuts off the video on the HDMI link unless its connected directly to a TV. In our case we still needed HDMI so using these RGB cables to feed a RGB to HDMI converter worked great. We had bought 9 of these.The only issue we found was connector does not have the best mechanical connection and with the heavy cable, strain relief needs to be used so the video is not lost. Long and short i would buy these again.

This is a cable that allows a DIRECTV Genie mini box to be connected to a TV that has a component cable connection or S-Video connection. It provides good picture quality and is long enough that the Genie box does not need to be extremely close to the TV hookups. It does not give you the same kind of A/V quality as a high-quality HDMI cable, but it gets the job done.

Connects DirectTV Genie C31 Mini To Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212

Just got this little gem and it connects the DirectTV Genie C31 mini-client to the Hauppauge HD PVR1200's component to USB system, for direct input of HD video, with audio, into your computer's USB port. Since HDCP handshaking is not used on component output, this is perhaps the best way to display and capture full 1080i HD content onto one's computer. The Hauppauge unit captures at true H-264 1080i in a variety of formats including MP4, Xbox, PS3. It captures crystal clear HD, especially in the Windows 7 Media Player which is extra clear. You cannot tell the difference in quality between these and DVR captures. But with the Hauppauge (which you can buy from Amazon) you can capture small snippets of anything, or stills, in full blown HD. This cable works just the same as the component cables right out of the back of the main DirectTV or cable system boxes.

This thing started up on the HD PVR on the first try without any adjustments. I am extremely pleased that I could input DirectTV into my computer out at a remote location. DirectTV did the Genie with it's C-31 mini right. DirectTV markets this cable under their own name. Many to most YouTube HD captures are done this way.

If you've got a C-31 Mini and a Hauppauge at about 150-180 bucks, buy this cable. If nothing else it makes a dirt cheap full screen HDTV out of your computer and in it's smaller window, you can both watch TV and do your computing all on the same screen. I run two monitors which make it even easier.

Pros: Good value/price, works perfect, good quality.
Cons: Not much of a con but the cable is heavy an can easily disconnect due to weight and flexibility.
I bought two and am planning to buy a couple more for other boxes and spares.

I recommend this cable, but make sure it fits your equipment (Pin Count) before buying.

I don't post reviews on every item I buy, but I have some information for those people reading the negative reviews that say "this cable doesn't work", that are (understandably) concerned about purchasing it. First, I'm not going to say that no defective cables have ever been shipped, but since this is just a "dumb" cable, no signal conversion or anything, I seriously doubt that's the case with most of the negative reviews... let me explain. If you're buying this cable, there's a good chance that it's to connect a HD DirecTV receiver to an older television... at least, that was my case. I bought this cable, hooked it up between a wireless Genie client receiver and a television with component input, and didn't get any signal (video OR audio) when connected to the television I wanted to use. I thought, like many others stated in their reviews, that it had to be the cables fault... I knew the TV worked, and I knew the receiver worked. On a whim, I used the cable to connect the same receiver to a newer television, and I got signal. I then went in to the video output settings on the receiver and adjusted it down to 480i. When I reconnected the receiver back to the original television... BOOM, it worked fine. Turns out the television I was using wouldn't accept any other signal format (480p, 720p or 1080i). So, if you find yourself in a similar situation, give that a shot.
