Now that the mighty GFWL dragon has been slayed, I can state without any hesitation that Dirt 3 is absolutely 100% worth buying. The Steamworks version comes complete with a graphics overhaul (it's a gorgeous game), all the previously released DLC, steam trading cards and achievements. If you owned the GFWL version, the updated version should have automatically appeared in your Steam library.

The actual driving and gameplay is where Dirt 3 really shines. Cars have rarely felt better and handled better. Whether its driving over desert sands or arctic snows, the cars just feel so, so good. If you spin out, it's your fault. Sure, you'll occasionally have an AI driver spin you out, but the races are generally so short that starting over isn't that big of deal (yes, you can rewind, but let's just call that what it is - cheating).

That's not to say, however, that this game doesn't require any skill. It absolutely does. You'll be clenching various body muscles and you corner around hairpin turns, race full throttle down a mountainside, or drift around a corner.

The only drawback - and this seems to be common with all racing games - is the "bro dude" way your team managers speak to you. I honestly don't know why developers think this is a good idea. It's completely ridiculous when bro dude says, "Mucho grande gymkhana!" The average gamer is a 30-something, well-educated male. We don't speak "bro dude." Honestly, it's a bit insulting, but whatever. Just tune them out and you'll be ok.

I can't highly recommend this game enough for the great visuals, car handling and straight-up fun.

Picked this up when it was on sale for cheap, mostly because I've not cared for most racing games in the last few years.

DIRT 3 is a solid course game.

Pros:
Controls are spot on
Easy to adjust to
Competitive at higher difficulties

Cons:
Opening sequence is a bit annoying
Game seems a little 'slow' in the speed 'feel' department. Not really a big negative for me, but everyone is different.

Other Thoughts:
Typical of racing games (course or open world) you start off in a really slow car and work your way up. The variety of events is nice, along with the general feel of the progression.

This is not a review of Dirt 3, I do enjoy the game, the one star is due to Amazon. I have the install disc and simply wanted a key to play the game, Amazon is not clear that you actually have to download the game from Steam then you can play it, sorry don't feel like waiting a day. Amazon digital sucks bad, good job tricking me out of 24.95 a$$holes

I only wanted this game for one reason: to play it while out to sea and off the internet. This game uses Steam for DRM so the offline functionality is missing. It's probably a great product if you can play it only on an internet connected computer. It's a huge disappointment for a sailor with no ability to get to the net. (game is installed properly and did work last time I had an internet connection.)

Steam, I hate you.

I tripled checked that this game was more about rally and less the other stuff but that didn't live to my expectation. Driving is great, cars amd tracks are great, but 2 mile rally stages between 4 full events (gymkana? really?) that i don't really care is not what i was looking for. I guess i'll go back to colin mcrae or richard burns rally.

As someone who had been playing Gran Turismo since the 3rd on PS2 as a kid this made me rethink Racing games in general. I've never played the DiRT series before I plan to try the second one at some point, but this one blew me away at the start. Again my review is from the point of view of someone who played GT(Gran Turismo) mostly on PS2 and PS3. When you first see the damage flying off the car either on Visual or Full it was breath taking not that I'm a damage freak, but not having it on Gran Turismo gave you no sense of fear that HEY I MIGHT MESS UP! Everything about this game is just the remedy I needed though respectable A.I that makes you work, and the weather effects like having puddles that mess up your view if you're in First Person mode is just great.

Overall though I can't find anything bad about the game at least not yet maybe not many tracks and cars that's about it.

To compare this with DiRT2, DiRT3 is pretty much the same, but done better. Rally fans should rest easy, as this game can be mostly played through with just Rally events. Graphics were pretty good for a game running Codemaster's EGO engine. Physics were much improved, with each car feeling different in the different terrains of the tracks in the game.

If you were a fan of DiRT2, this game would be perfect for you.

Could not download it. Then they want you to download it and play it on a 3rd party sight like Steam, which they have download issues too. Will be asking for a refund.
