The Roombas are great on floors, but nothing else. The big vacuum is a pain to haul around to do small jobs. I needed something handheld. I landed on this guy and went for it. While I generally prefer corded instead of battery operated gizmos these days, I was drawn to the bagless operation, power brushroll, and other mostly favorable reviews.
So far, I'm quite pleased. The power brushroll is way better than the attachments on my upright vacuum, especially when it comes to cat hair. I run this thing over a chair, blanket, or even my pants (yes, while I'm wearing them) and the cat fur vanishes quickly. It's not too heavy, it's not terribly loud (that is, it's got some volume but it's not obnoxious), it's easy to empty the dust bin.
Battery life seems decent. I have no baseline of comparison, but I was able to - with the brushroller - get the cat fur off two chairs and then *finally* vacuum the carpet on the stairs before the battery was too discharged to be useful anymore. A decent runtime, and a decent project.
I haven't tried to wash the filter yet, though it does pop out pretty easily.
Why only 4 stars? Here's my mild but room-for-improvement complaints:
- There's no mounting ability. A simple hole on the bottom or something to be able to easily hang it on the wall would be nice
- And/or with the mount, a specific wall-mount would be nice; one with a "just drop it in" charge connection. I'm worried someone will forget to plug the charge cable back in.
- I actually wish there were more attachments for the end. Maybe one of those "long bristle brush" things?
Overall though, I like it. I'd buy it again or recommend it to others.
EDIT# 3: 11/7/16 - have the replacement unit, now in service for half a year, seems to be holding up well.
EDIT# 2: 6/23/16- after a huge hassle trying to return the unit, I finally have a confirmation that a replacement is on its way. I have little confidence that the battery will last in this one, either... And the customer service was less than stellar...
EDIT: As of April 2016, this unit will not recharge or stay running for more than 1 minute. Battling with Dirt Devil now for a replacement.
I purchased this as a cordless alternative to the corded Panasonic vacuum we use regularly. I also chose this particular model because of the beater brush attachment in the front, since we have a dog who seems to be made entirely of removable hair.
It works decently for small areas, but don't expect to vacuum off an entire couch or a larger area in record times. The battery has not expired on us yet, but we leave it plugged in when not in use. Suction is just average, and on par with other hand-held 'dustbuster' type vacuums. Cleaning it out is relatively simple, but the filter seems prone to clogging with dust. I also find that the beater bar I chose this model for is not easily removable - it seems as though you are breaking it when you pull it off and re-installing it is not intuitive or simple.
Emptying the dust bin on it is all but impossible with the 'quick release' pop-up mechanism. I always take the entire front off and dump it out this way. The filter also clogs easily, but the pre-filter cone and the filter itself come apart so you can clean the filter with... another vacuum.
Now, it's relegated to vacuuming up swept up debris and cleaning off furniture - and for the price, it seems too much for so little use. I expected maybe a bit more.
I'm glad I followed my instincts on this one as it turned out to be a great little rechargeable vacuum cleaner with a very clever design and an extremely simple clean out mechanism. It also comes with an internal washable (with water only) filter, which just makes it even better. The only thing I wish they had included with the unit is a wall bracket. I'm shopping for one now and if I can't find anything that will fit, I'll just make one myself.
