I used it to replace a portable wet/dry vac (https://www.amazon.com/Sminiker-Handheld-Multi-functions-Inflator-Compressor/dp/B01DNMX77E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470501946&sr=8-1&keywords=portable+12V+vac) that just didn't have very good suction, and that didn't have a rotating bristle brush. It's advantages: it ran off 18V, and was wet / dry. But it's cleaning power was weak, so I retired it in favor of the Dirt Devil, which cleaned better, despite not having a local power supply (the boat's 12V battery).
But the Dirt Devil died a very early death due to it not being water proof; I had it stored under a boat seat, and apparently some water drizzled onto it and got onto the power charger cable point, and perhaps inside it, as well. The wet-dry vac had sat in the same location for three years through multiple rain and waves and splashes and had no issues with that environment.
I'll replace this Dirt Devil with another one, and this time put it in a water-proof bag.
It was a good product, but unsuitable for a damp environment.
The Roombas are great on floors, but nothing else. The big vacuum is a pain to haul around to do small jobs. I needed something handheld. I landed on this guy and went for it. While I generally prefer corded instead of battery operated gizmos these days, I was drawn to the bagless operation, power brushroll, and other mostly favorable reviews.
So far, I'm quite pleased. The power brushroll is way better than the attachments on my upright vacuum, especially when it comes to cat hair. I run this thing over a chair, blanket, or even my pants (yes, while I'm wearing them) and the cat fur vanishes quickly. It's not too heavy, it's not terribly loud (that is, it's got some volume but it's not obnoxious), it's easy to empty the dust bin.
Battery life seems decent. I have no baseline of comparison, but I was able to - with the brushroller - get the cat fur off two chairs and then *finally* vacuum the carpet on the stairs before the battery was too discharged to be useful anymore. A decent runtime, and a decent project.
I haven't tried to wash the filter yet, though it does pop out pretty easily.
Why only 4 stars? Here's my mild but room-for-improvement complaints:
- There's no mounting ability. A simple hole on the bottom or something to be able to easily hang it on the wall would be nice
- And/or with the mount, a specific wall-mount would be nice; one with a "just drop it in" charge connection. I'm worried someone will forget to plug the charge cable back in.
- I actually wish there were more attachments for the end. Maybe one of those "long bristle brush" things?
Overall though, I like it. I'd buy it again or recommend it to others.
I'm glad I followed my instincts on this one as it turned out to be a great little rechargeable vacuum cleaner with a very clever design and an extremely simple clean out mechanism. It also comes with an internal washable (with water only) filter, which just makes it even better. The only thing I wish they had included with the unit is a wall bracket. I'm shopping for one now and if I can't find anything that will fit, I'll just make one myself.
