this is a huge timesaver!! **UPDATE re: cat litter and the upright attachment**
on September 22, 2012
**SCROLL DOWN BELOW FOR UPDATE**
I have a small apartment, no carpet, just pergo and tile, I have a cat, and a car that needs vaccuuming. I bought the plug-in kind because I wanted it to have suction power and since I have a small place, I didn't care about plugging and unplugging it. I care about my time more than the two seconds that it takes to plug this thing to another outlet.
This thing is GREAT out of the box! Without the attachments, it's a hand vac. I hand-vac'd the cat tree (with cat hair and cat food spilled in choice places), the dustbunnies on the floor, and random little things. One pass, the hand vac got everything!!! I tried the little attachment for crevices. A +!!! No need to dust the little crevices by the wall and the floor, this tool sucks it all up!
It took me less than 10 minutes to clean up. My cat hasn't tracked any cat litter today, so I will update this if, for some reason, this little vac can't handle that. However, I haven't even needed to use the upright attachment, and I already have a special affection for this thing.
I ALMOST want to vacuum my car. That's next on my list. I am SO glad I bought this. Totally worth it.
**UPDATE ON THE UPRIGHT VAC FUNCTION, 9/25/12**
There is NO brush, which made it useless on the cat litter. I ended up hand-vac'ing the cat litter off the floor, which worked great, though I had to bend down to use it. NOTE: when you do this, run it lightly on the floor to avoid scratching the floor, and the "snout" of your vac. When you empty the vac, remember to also clean the "snout" of the hand vac (because you WILL get it dirty when you run it on the floor like that).
I've used the hand vac and the little crevice tool about 10 times, and haven't emptied the cup yet.
Would I have paid an extra $5 for a brush either on the upright attachment, or even on the hand vac itself? Though I found a workaround, the main reason I bought this vac is to clean the cat litter. If you have a lot to clean, bending down to use it like a hand vac will become uncomfortable soon enough. If you have a bad back, then buy a better vacuum with a brush.
