Dirty Promises Review:
"Bloodsuckers never rest until they're full."
This book tested every imaginable comfort level there is when it comes to reading books. Karina Halle wrote an extraordinary story and kept things real. I have followed Javier Bernal since the beginning when he first appear in Karina's Artists Trilogy. He is one of those characters that you can' never forget. I hated him at the beginning but I had a turnaround in Dirty Angels. I needed to know how this story was going to end. What was going to happen, how so much pain and sorrow was going to be avenged and if Javier and Luisa could get past that.
"Someone had to believe in love. I had to believe. Even if I was a fool."
Amongst the gruesome reality of what is going on in the story we get slivers of light, of love, of laughter. I was craving those moments. I knew that Karina would give them to us. Moments like Luisa remembering her first time as a child when she experience how different classes worked in her country, when you could feel the soul of a man like Javier, when you could see that this woman wanted nothing more than to be his king's queen and even when a chicken feather brought console to a devastated soul. I needed those moments to keep me sane, to keep me focus.
Make no mistake about it, even in darkness this is romance and their love is like no other.
I am very impressed with Karina Halle's versatility in writing. And in here she takes it to another level that you just have to experience by reading the book.
Dirty Angels - "I'm not sure what it says about me as a reader that Dirty Angels is my very favorite kind of story. The kind of story where the hero is not a hero at all. He's a heartless, irredeemable bastard who goes so far over the edge into his treachery and villainy, it's unlikely he can ever come back from it. The kind where the heroine exists in a life of such desperation and ugliness, that all the choices she makes for her life consist of deciding what is, literally, the lesser of two evils. The unpredictable kind, the kind where this constant feeling of foreboding exists, leaving the reader wondering until the very last page how this can possibly end well for anyone. Karina Halle once again blows my mind with her superb writing and story telling. The dialogue in this book is perfection. Her beautiful prose in such a dark, ugly story is the perfect demonstration of her remarkable talent. This is, in my opinion, Karina Halle's best writing to date... which should speak volumes considering how phenomenal her writing has always been."
Dirty Deeds- "Mariachi music and margaritas under the hot Mexican sun, high speed chases through the crime-ridden streets, guns and drugs and sex... Dirty Deeds has all the makings for a spicy, suspenseful romance, wrought with crime, danger and sensuality. The reader is taken on an unpredictable ride of fear, love, loss and redemption. The heat and brutality and violence of Mexico is a tangible thing within these pages. The brutally heinous dirty deeds are a stark contrast to the stunningly beautiful prose crafted by Karina Halle. Dirty Deeds is another refreshing, unputdownable read in this addictively Dirty series."
Dirty Promises - "Dirty Promises, from cover to cover, is a hauntingly dark tale of drugs and sex, greed and bloodlust, murder and revenge. I felt as though I was being squeezed, pummeled, pulled through the ringer so that everything I could ever dream to feel was left on the floor in front of me after I finished. Everything from frustration and visceral pain, to lust and love and hope, to pure unadulterated hate, I felt it all. I felt sick yet whole, disgusted yet relieved. I felt seduced, utterly rocked, and completely satisfied. With her beautiful prose and gritty plot, Halle eeks out every drop of emotion a reader can possibly feel until there's nothing left. Dirty Promises is ugly and phenomenal and I loved every word from beginning to bittersweet end."

This box set had me totally hooked. It's got it all, lust, love, hate, torture, murder and plenty of action in and out of the bedroom.
The story centers around Luisa who is from a poor family whose elderly parents need constant care and that all comes at at a price.
Louisa catches the eye of the Druglord Salvador Reyes who tells her she will become his wife and in return her parents will be given everything they need.
Louisa agrees and they marry but things change very quicklyfor the worse.
She is kidnapped by Javier Vernal who wants Salvador cartel for himself only Javier starts feeling things he hasn't felt in a LONG time.
This book is very dark in places but for me that just made it better.
This trilogy is brilliantly written by Karina Halle, this boxed set is the first I've read from this author and I was very impressed !
You have a love hate relationship with some of the characters, but love or hate him Jarvier is something special ! Poor Luisa is really put through the mill but wow she is so strong and totally Jarviers equal.
Was really intrigued with the insight you get into the Mexican drug cartels. Scary stuff !
If you like dark and at times a disturbing read then you'll love this, highly recommend.
If you want hearts and flowers this is not for you .... !
A bargain price for those who haven't previously read the trilogy- and if you have- Estebans story is well worth the 99p :)
