Interview with the Author

Q What makes the Dirty Blood series special?

A It's a couple of things. First, I wanted to explore a world where the line between good guys and bad guys became blurred. Werewolves are one of my favorite paranormal creatures--animal instincts make for killer action! And the love story is not what you'd expect. A racial divide combined with all the hormones and feelings of a teenage girl with a stubborn streak and a mysterious guy who has experienced more loss than most people can handle.
The whole series is designed to make you fall in love--with the characters and the story. You'll definitely want to turn the page to find out what happens next and whether they'll kiss or kill!

Q Why should readers give this series a try?

A The Dirty Blood series is fun, fast-paced, and the perfect risk--considering book one is currently free! And once you get to the end of book one, I'm willing to bet you'll be hooked.
The series if the perfect blend for lovers of paranormal romance and action/adventure. There's really something in here for everyone.

Q Will there be any more books in the series?

A Broken Blood is the last book in the story of Tara and Wes. There will be a spinoff series coming in 2016 that will chronicle Sam's journey (Tara's human best friend) and some of the existing characters will follow. On one hand, this book may have everything you are looking for in an easy read... Good looking girl with hidden talent, one mysterious good looking guy who saves her and then takes on the job of protecting her and another guy who wants her as well. On the other hand it may be a symbol of everything you didn't like in all the other YA novels you have read so far. Sub par writing, flat conversations, skin deep character development etc... Once more, it seems like I belong to the minority in here who is giving a bad review to a book that scores 4+ stars in average. I went back and re-read some sections to see if I was missing something but I just came up with the same feeling. This is not a well-written book. I generally give 3 stars to books with writing issues but have original story lines. I can't do that for this book because if you are a fan of this genre, it is possible that every angle of the story will remind you something you have read before. Oh well, if you decide to buy it, hope you will enjoy it more then I did...

I recently read another of Heather Hildenbrand's books, Across the Galaxy, and absolutely loved it. So needless to say, I was anticipating this book with very high expectations. Dirty Blood did not disappoint. Dirty Blood offers the much beloved werewolf story, but with a new, cool twist. In Dirty Blood, there are werewolves, and Hunters. Weres and Hunters are natural enemies, their purpose to destroy each other. The main character is Tara, a seemingly typical girl. But, when Tara is pulled into the midst of a supernatural world she never knew about, she must find her place. Who will help her find her way in this new world? Wes,a gorgeous guy who was deep, dark secrets of his own. Dirty Blood has action, adventure, humor and romance. The action begins right away and never lets up. The end leaves you breathless and hungry for more. I have my fingers crossed that Dirty Blood will have a sequel....very soon!

This was a book with so much potential. While I enjoyed reading it, I couldn't help but roll my eyes a couple of times at the completely typical YA wolf references that, like many people have already pointed out on Goodreads, really reminded me of another popular YA that had wolves in it (guess which one...). We also have a family who lives in the woods, teenagers with fancy cars... There was really no need for the story to have quite so many similarities and it would have been better without them.

Another failing was the insta-bond between our protagonist and her love interest. I really dislike this sort of relationship and while it was explained later in the book, there has to be another way for writers to create a relationship, right?

There were some bits that I did enjoy about the story though. The beginning was fantastic, what a way to start a book! I liked the dramatic style that let the plot shine through, pulling me further into the story than my tired eyes would have liked.

Despite its failings, the characters, plot and wonderful writing style have made a lasting impression and have left me wondering about what will happen next. I would recommend Dirty Blood to fans of paranormal or werewolfy YA books.

I really loved the idea of Werewolves and Hunters! It was different from the usual Vampires and Hunters.

As soon as you pick up the book, you are thrown into some pretty intense action! Tara is on a date with her longtime boyfriend, George, who turns up late as usual. Tara breaks up with him because not only has he changed, but they have changed as a couple. She makes George leave and ends up with no one to give her a ride home so she walks through an ally to get to the bus station. Next thing Tara knows is there is a girl who turned into a wolf right before her eyes and is charging at her. Tara is stunned with what she is witnessing but her body takes over and kills the wolf by picking up a pipe. She then went into shock and they guy shows up to help her and take her home.

I really loved this book especially Tara and Wes! The pull between the two of them makes the story really interesting. The fact that Wes tries to deny his feelings for Tara and is so hot and cold to her that it makes Tara wonder if he truly likes her, but it also makes the reader question his actions. Wes is a very complex and dense character who has been through so much. It makes it hard for him to be able to trust anyone along with this girl he is drawn to and doesn’t know why. Tara, is also drawn to Wes and is very confused as her whole world changes and she finds out she is a Hunter and has never known. The hardest part for Tara is finding her place in this world, but the more she learns, the more complicated this world becomes!

This book is defiantly jaw dropping with everything Tara goes through and comes to know about this mystery life.

This book is action packed with adventure, humor, and romance and never lets up.

It took everything that I had in me to finish this friggin book. It literally made my brain feel numb and made my eyes glaze over. It was fairly hard to focus through all of the eye-rolling and general disbelief over many character behaviors. Ugh.

Characters I could admire:

Tara. As far as heroine's go, she was pretty spectacular. She had a serious backbone, this girl. In the beginning, her repentance with establishing her strength and totally SANE state of mind got on my nerves, but, then again, some people just need to be told a thousand times before they accept something as fact, so I'm going to say that was one of another's faults and not Tara's. In all fairness, Tara really is THAT TOUGH and then some. She was a determined and loyal person, sticking up for her friends/family and working to ensure their safety above all things. Always admire that in a person.

Tara's biggest fault, however, pulls some serious weight with my overall opinion of her: Her complete and total weakness when it came to Wes (the love interest). Even though this guy has proven to be a raging douche on more than one occasion, she is still GAGA for him. Really, I'm not quite sure that he deserves her attentions. And the both of them dropping the 'L-Bomb' when they've only known each other for, what, a few weeks tops? Oh, HECK NO!! That just ain't right. Especially when it seems so friggin fake, coming up after a certain vision of future POSSIBILITIES. UGH. Overall, I think can probably get behind Tara as a true heroine for this series. Time will tell if my opinion changes.

Fee. She was such a sweet and motherly figure. Incredibly supportive of Tara, a girl she has never met before and knows next to nothing about.
