What isn't to love about Janelle Monae? It's a perfect hodge-podge of sound and poetry. Like her previous albums, every song sounds distinctly different - there isn't necessarily a cohesive flow to this album, but that's part of what I love. The story behind it is what makes it all work together beautifully. Though I love Electric Lady a bit more than Dirty Computer (especially since EL used a radio station vibe to tie it all together), this one has many standout songs and is still solid and a great listen. (She even made an "Emotion Picture" for this album which you can find on her YouTube channel - 48 minutes of bliss.) My only regret is that Cindy Mayweather didn't feature!! But, hey, Rock, Pop, and Prince... you can't go wrong.

If you enjoy Janelle Monae, this is excellent music from a true artist. Don't pass it up!

Janelle Monáe has stolen my musical heart with this gem of an album! With this album, she could be the female equivalent of Prince. A title that she would wear with pride if she heard it.

This album is a masterpiece in today's ultra-fabricated landscape. The views she shares on subjects such as politics, equality, gender and sexuality, set to some funky beats and killer harmonies, will resonate within you and make you rethink the state of everything. She may come across as a brash unicorn while standing up for her beliefs, but she isn't apologetic about it. 'Make Me Feel' is what drew me to this album, and I'm glad I gave it the chance it deserved! The stand out tracks for me include 'Crazy, Classic Life', which is an uplifting song about someone who wants to live their life on their own terms, 'Dirty Computer' with the wails of Brian Wilson echoing deep in your soul, as Monáe compares feelings of love to the hardware of a computer, and 'I Got the Juice', which is a dope track to bop your head up and down to!

When I look back at 2018 in music, this album will definitely be a top contender on my list of favorites! Get this album and get lost in these tracks!

ART. ART. Put this in the MOMA. Put it in the Lourve. Put it in a time capsule and let the aliens know there is TALENT on this little rock called Earth, and it's all in Janelle Monae. Some people make music but they are not music. Janelle is music. It's like Apollo and all the Muses touched her specifically.

And her lyrics? She did THAT.

So my vinyl version arrived in perfect condition, absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. As I began to play it on my player on the 33rpm setting (assuming because of its size that it was) but as it started it sounded like a 45 would sound on a 33. I then put it on my 45 rpm setting and it sounded perfect, so apparently it's meant to be played as a 45. Unless your record player has e 45 rpm setting don't order it. Unless I got a reject? Kind of confused.

Whether you've follow her since her days performing in clubs, or you found her through her work as an actress, the talent of Janelle Monae as a musical artist cannot be denied. This album merges all her previous sounds - rock, pop, soul, funk. While the sound might be a little too pop for some I found it a refreshing balance to the poignant, personal, revealing lyrics. There's a light-heartedness to this album as though a weight has not necessarily been lifted, but comfortably re-arranged on her shoulders and carried with agility.
