“Hilarious and at times heartbreaking . . .”Vanity Fair

A New York Times bestseller

Millions of viewers know and love Bob Saget from his role as the sweetly neurotic father Danny Tanner on the smash hit Full House, and as the charming wisecracking host of America's Funniest Home Videos. And then there are the legions of fans who can't get enough of his scatological, out-of-his-mind stand-up routines, comedy specials, and outrageously profane performances in such shows as HBO's Entourage and the hit documentary The Aristocrats.

In his bold and wildly entertaining publishing debut, he continues to embrace his dark side and gives readers the book they have long been waiting for—hilarious and often dirty. Bob believes there's a time and a place for filth. From his never-before-heard stories of what really went on behind the scenes of two of the most successful family shows of all times, with co-stars like John Stamos and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, to his tales of legendary friends and colleagues like Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryor, Don Rickles, and other show business legends, Saget opens up about some of his personal experiences with life and death, his career, and his reputation for sick humor—all with his highly original blend of silliness, vulgarity, humor and heart, and all framed by a man who loves being funny above all else.

Review

“Hilarious and at times heartbreaking . . .” — Vanity Fair

“Equal parts smut and sincerity . . .” — Larry King Now

“Both funnier and darker than you might expect . . .” — AskMen.com

From the Back Cover

He is the sweetly neurotic father on the smash hit Full House . . .
The charming, wisecracking host of America's Funniest Home Videos . . .
The scatological, out-of-his-mind stand-up comic from Entourage and The Aristocrats . . .

He is Bob Saget, and in Dirty Daddy he delivers uproarious, uncensored, and heartfelt stories from his life in entertainment and beyond.

Bob talks about the connection between humor and pain, and pays homage to the family, friends, and legendary comedians who have shaped and inspired him—Richard Pryor, David Letterman, Billy Crystal, and Robin Williams. Throughout, he shares tales of close friends and colleagues like Rodney Dangerfeld and Don Rickles, and recalls his experiences with show-business legends, including Johnny Carson and George Carlin. Told with his highly original blend of silliness, vulgarity, wit, and heart, Dirty Daddy reveals Bob Saget as never before—a man hilarious and often dirty, yet warm and disarmingly sincere, who loves being funny and making people laugh above all else.

Couldnt put it down until I got close to the end...then I did as all good books I read. I put it down, to go back and read the end in its entirety. A way to savor, because then it will be done, fini, ba bye. Dang it.
Loved your Honesty, Bob. Whenever you went on a tangent, then came back. It was almost like you were standing in my livingroom. Good thing you weren't. My husband would have freaked!
I saw you on a morning talk show speaking about your book, and how your Mom had passed. My condolences.
I, like a lot of others, thought you were squeaky clean. When I heard you were doing stand up and it was considered very dirty, my first thought was, you were grasping for more, when you had plenty. But when I actually saw your stand up, I thought, he has been doing this for a while, not his first rodeo. Then I understood.
I was raised in a household with a bunch of sarcastic, dirty minded boys and two sisters that had to put up with it before I could understand it. Their friends were the same, and somehow my friends were the same. (town stricken by sarcasm and dirty minds by osmosis!)
So, altho my "over 21" sons have realized recently, Momma has a potty mouth and is not afraid to use it. Plus, I realized one of them has my dirty mind.... People still don't understand my being this way. This is me, and apparently you also, plus my youngest who should be doing standup....lol!
Thanks for writing this... now I know its an untreatable disease, and I should roll on with my life, people can think what they want. I blame my brothers.... LOL!

My kiddo recently started watching the old Full House series and then moved on to the Fuller House series. It would be sad to see yet another series without Bob Saget. He seemed like a genuinely nice, authentic man in real life. Great read of what seemed to be a wonderful man. Recommend.

This was far better than expected. You get a dose of usual Saget humor, but also get to see his tender side. From stories of his childhood, to learning of the great losses he has suffered in his life, to the friendships he has made and maintained, this book helped turn the caricature who we see on stage into a three dimensional being he truly is at heart. Yes, it is raunchy, but it is also real and quite an emotional ride. If you are a fan of Bob, you should read this book!

The book I ordered from this seller arrived in a timely manner. As promised, it is new and smells good. Many times, the books or other products I have ordered from other sellers arrive smelling like air freshener…what a turnoff when that happens. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy from this seller again. Thank you for a good buying experience.

This book had a lot of things about Bob Saget (I refuse to call him Danny Tanner like 95% of the rest of the country does) I never knew. Some of those things made me tear up and want to just go give him a hug. Some of them made me laugh out loud. Literally. In public, even. Sometimes he would ramble a bit, and it seemed like he was extremely uncomfortable...or he felt like he had to keep the persona of "Aristorcrats Guy" or "Dirty Danny Tanner Guy" around to get him through it. Or maybe it was just to sell more books. I don't know. When I have caught glimpses of what I suspected was the "authentic" Bob Saget I really liked him. The Bob Saget who visited Larry from the Three Stooges in the nursing home, the Bob Saget who would spend time with his sister after working at night, the Bob Saget who raises money and awareness for scleroderma (which hits close to home with me)...THAT guy. Even the guy who made the one-liner that he wasn't sure he should put in the book...that guy, too (gotta read it).

I guess my only criticism would be that I wish there was more "real" Bob Saget and less of the stage persona Bob Saget. I understand these were some difficult subjects to deal with, but here was a bit of rambling. Good book overall. Go get it.

P.S. Signed book plate?? What signed book plate??
