The Dirty Ones Kindle Edition
"This story was just incredible. I was completely unable to put this book down, from the suspense, to the twists and turns, the hot sex and the complicated relationships, this story left me spent, in the absolute best way. You must read this book." - Nightbird Novels
"J.A. Huss' The Dirty Ones is so suspenseful that I couldn't put it down. I can't help but try to guess the antagonist and outcome while reading, and all my hypotheses were seriously wrong! Ms. Huss kept me guessing until the very end, and that folks, is entertainment." - Goodreads Reviewer Julie
"Whoah! My first JA Huss full length novel and it blew me away! Was it erotica? Was it mystery? Was it suspense? Was it romance? All of the above, I think. I know one thing, I was hooked, I was mesmerised, I was desperate to get my hands on THAT book. I was desperate to find out what would happen at the end of THIS story. Brilliantly clever, wonderfully written and I'll let you in on a little secret.....whatever you think is happening.....you're wrong." Netgalley Reviewer Pamela Lilley
"JA Huss weaves a sexually charged, erotic tale. The characters are hot with their entanglement and deviant with their acts but hell it makes for one super hot read." Karen - Kazza's Book Blog and Reviews
"JA Huss, I have read many of your books, but this one, The Dirty Ones, was by far the best one you have ever written! If I could have given it 6 beautiful stars I would have." - Goodreads Reviewer Kelly
"This is an author unlike any I've read before. She has the ability to weave mystery and suspense effortlessly and without ever feeling contrived." Goodreads Reviewer Courtnenay Bennett
"I can't remember the last time a book had me so engaged, so glued to it trying my hardest to figure out who the real culprit was only to come up completely empty every time. I loved this book. Seriously adore it. From the characters with so many different personalities to the steamy sex, the questions I kept asking myself, the fact that I did not figure this book out until the moment the author wanted me to, everything was so freaking well written it's got to be my favorite book of the year." - Goodreads Reviewer Erica
"This is undoubtedly a sizzling erotic novel, but it is also much more. I haven't read a storyline this authentic in...well I can't remember how long, and the characters are genuine and totally believable in each of their roles. So if you like your sex, down right dirty, with a "who done it" plot and some serious mind blowing scheming too, then this book will rock your world. Thank you J.A. Huss for a fabulous read!" - Goodreads Reviewer Karen Roma
"I had an assumption that this would be a dirty, sex filled book but god this is dirty in another way, it deals with betrayal on the deepest level. The feelings, the confusion and god good the over whelming sense of longing. For something right and true and I can not tell you how much you need to get a copy of this. I am so enchanted and absorbed by this author and her words and just this book. I'm in love. Thank you author for this book." - Coffeeandbooks
"I'm hooked on this story and after finishing this book, I immediately read it again. The Dirty Ones is a mindfudge of the finest, masterfully crafted by the author, a unique story. I recommend The Dirty Ones and give 5 stars." - Goodreads Reviewer Konny
"I loved everything about this book from Connor's trudge through that encrusting snow, to the POV from Connor and Keira's standpoint, through to the denouement and epilogue... no, you get no more from me because you have to do yourself a favour. Buy the book, clear your calendar and settle in. Marvelous!" Goodreads Reviewer Alicia

When I first saw the listing for this title I was neither here nor there on the whole secret life of erotica authors spiel. Then at one point I read a blurb that said it was about a group of former friends who are tormented by what they did years earlier when they were in college or something, and it sounded a bit like a plot to a few horror movies I’ve seen, and I laughed.
Never-the-less, when I looked at the book mystery plot it intrigued me. I read the release blitz excerpt, the teasers, and asked a few questions. I went into this knowing that there’s no monogamy here. I can’t do that stuff blind. Everyone has slept with everyone. There’s ménages; there were orgies. And to be fair it was categorized as ‘dark erotic suspense.’
So I compartmentalized all that because I made up my mind that if I was going to read this, I was reading it for the suspense angle. It was hard though to not gravitate to a romantic vibe. The story is told via Connor and Kiera’s alternating first person point of view, and while I agreed with Kiera that they were from and still living in two different worlds, I also believed Connor that she was something more. I felt the pull between them. I got caught up in them even though I was trying not to because I knew this wasn’t romance.
The Amazon sample had already sucked me into the story. I related with the themes of a time and place that left you connected to people whether you’d seen them in six months or ten years. I understood how corruption, secrets, and debauchery can bond individuals at that time and place in their lives. The opening is alluring and intriguing. I wanted to know more about these people and I wanted to know who wrote the book and who was pulling the strings. It was more than just an I Know What You Did in the Tower and Most Likely To Write a Dirty Book. Or so I thought.
There’s no doubt the first half or a little more is a great story. A solid 4 stars with the potential for 5. But potential is key with this book. It’s everything and the only thing. The premise and the characters had a ton of potential. The plot started out strong too. It could have been one of the best mysteries I’ve read in a long time. And it did have me turning page for quite a while.
But once you reach a certain point, the real genre becomes clear. This might have mystery/suspense; it might have erotica and dark themes. It has touches of romance too and gothic elements. And then it was if I’d put down all those books and turned on daytime TV.
Suddenly, CNN and Days of our Lives had an orgy. And out popped this love child which is the last quarter or so of the book.
Now what I wanted to know was did someone else write this—the ending. Cause it sure didn’t resemble the quality of characters and plot and development that it started out with. In fact, everything it had established and developed imploded. It shot itself in the foot. The expression gone off the rails was made for this.
The writer’s guide to soap operas blew open and the most popular clichés and tropes came spilling out. Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower. A mad witch doctor in a white lab coat with a German accent was the evil villain’s henchman. Okay that really happened on TV. But it happens here too more or less. The elements that screamed clichéd one-dimensional bad guys and ‘I don’t know how to finish this storyline’ were all there to ruin what was a really good erotic psychological mystery-thriller.
Instead, it turns out that the psychological ploy is on the reader. It’s meant to keep you guessing and whispering…in your books circles to generate buzz. But my advice, don’t waste your time when the writing is too lazy to provide concrete plausible answers. What pulls you in won’t deliver because it doesn’t exist. The characters that draw you in and seem real and interesting turn out to be idiots. And the reveal—the big answer—well it won’t add up any more than the fact that their senior year of college set in the US (when most students are 21/22) happened ten years ago (yes it says that many times) and yet these people are only 29 and 30 in the present!
The Dirty Ones is a story taking College students back to their Senior year and their Senior year’s cult like initiation of some type which circles around a book written of that year.
There was a time I could not put a Huss book down. It took me 2 weeks to read this book. The 2 stars is for the ending where “it” is all finally explained thus finally keeping my attention. Up to this point, The Dirty Ones just did not hold my attention.
Mystery’s are great but they have to make sense. This mystery falls short, too choppy, and did not keep this readers attention to “ have to keep reading to see what happens next.
Huss, I miss your old writing style, please bring it back!
Kiera puts the town in “town and gown”. A scholarship student at Essex College, a tiny, elite school for the ultra-rich and privileged. She’s still living in the shadow of campus when her past shows up on her doorstep ten years later. A past in the form of Conner, the kinky, sexy golden boy of Essex College who has explosive best seller that exposes the secrets of The Dirty Ones, a group of Essex College seniors that included Kiera and Conner, in hand. A best seller that he is convinced that Kiera, the darling of indie erotica, penned.
Things quickly spin out of control as the they tend to do in the Huss universe as the past refuses to stay buried. Huss thrusts the reader through the looking glass into a past full of hedonistic sex, deception, Gatsbyesque wealth and decadence. It’s equal parts malevolent fun house and fever dream as the reunited friends are captured in a web of manipulation and betrayal worthy of Agatha Christie. But there’s also an almost fairy tale sense of love, longing and regret as The Dirty Ones rediscover what they meant to one another.
Clever is a word for describing parlour tricks. This story is so enveloping and engaging it defies description. Just know that it is ferociously seductive, with a crackling, overwhelming pace that makes it unputdownable. It was so intense that I dreamt about it last night. Stories like this are the reason I fell in love with the written word.
Every start I’m allowed to give.

Connor and Keira are the narrators in this twisted wonderful story. They tell it all through duel perspective introducing us to their friends Camille, Sofia, Bennet, Hayes and Emily. Each have a story to tell, each have secrets and a past they shared when they were in their senior year at college. One year, lots of dirty erotic naughtiness between the seven of them and this is their story and what really happened in that year. They called themselves The Dirty Ones so I'll leave the rest to your imagination !!! What happened in that one year has made them into the people they are today and so ten years later when a book mysteriously appears in the top 10 best sellers list all about their little escapades they are not happy little bunnies and they set out to discover whom the author is.
To say there are so many twists and turns in this book would be a slight understatement, I found myself questioning everything that I was reading and often went back over pages to read again to digest it all. Just as you think you may have this story sussed out Julie Huss delivers the biggest twist of all and it was just mind blowing !!
Fantastic writing, glorious imagination, twists and angst you can hardly believe with characters you love to hate and some seriously hot kinky sex thrown in, this book has it all.
A MUST read !!!
The précis doesn’t give much away for the story line which is what drew me in and made me want to read this story.
The book continues giving snippets of information, slowly unravelling all the threads with an unexpected twist at the end.
We are introduced to the MCs who are Connor and Keira however others pertinent to the story are Camille, Sofia, Bennet, Hayes and Emily. The 7 of them have a past, they describe themselves as ‘The Dirty Ones’ following their senior year at college. Some crazy dirty things happened which shaped their lives and 10 years later someone has released a book about them.
This was a great suspense, mystery, romance that kept me intrigued throughout.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of #TheDirtyOnes from #NetGalley however I had already preordered this from amazon also.
I loved everything about this book from Connor's trudge through that encrusting snow, to the POV from Connor and Kiera's standpoint, through to the denouement and epilogue..no, you get no more from me because you have to do yourself a favour. Buy the book, clear your calendar and settle in. Marvellous!
I swear I love this woman and her stories, her mind is nuts, the stories are addictive, intriguing, mind blowing and perfection at its finest!
This is the story of the Dirty Ones - and when it says dirty, it means dirty...and filthy, and kinky and pure erotic that will leave you squirming!
6 main people but 8 in total, there's something sinister going on, even without the blurb of it being the truth, you just know that there's going to be a twist that will leave you slack jawed and thinking wow, just wow because you are speechless!
I loved it, that's the bottom line...I loved it - the huss factor is back and it doesn't disappoint
