The characters were so well defined and saint and Delilah were perfect every character in this book was well written. Hadassah Beeper Vaughn keep on writing and will keep reading what you write. AWESOME. FIVE STARS.
Esther is a sweet, innocent girl. She follows the rules, tries to be pleasing in everyone's eye including God's eyes. She has been raised that she is to save herself in all ways for her husband, she is to be chaste in everything, and she is. However she has a secret, she LOVES football. She always has. She has a roommate that is a bit loose with the rules and other ways, but she is her friend so she decides to go with her to a party. Did I mention her roommate/friend Romy dresses her is a little mini form fitting skirt (compared to the long skirts that don't even show her ankles basically) and a top that shows her goods, and make up. To a party. To a party that HE shows up at. That same party where he starts to notice her and she notices him. But she can't allow herself that.
Saint is the star of the football team, a disappointment to his parents, a playboy and now he is on a mission. That sweet girl is at this party, the party that her friend leaves her alone at to spend time with her boyfriend, who just so happens to be Saint's friend/roommate. He is turned on even more by her trying to ignore him and it intrigues him more. He wants her and he gets what he wants.
The team needs to have a woman on the team to keep the money from the scholarships to keep happening, and Esther applies. She becomes the new water girl for the team. She is in heaven because she can enjoy football without really hiding from it. Family dinner night comes around and her dear old jerk father finds out about her being part of the team and loses it. Saint sees the way he raised his hand to her mother and sees the way both women are cowling, and his blood boils. Now he feels the need to win her over and take her away from that.
He and she can't deny themselves and things start happening, good things. She is still a good girl, just not innocent anymore. Saint has her and he isn't letting go. He has a big heart, and he knows he wants to be with her always. Along the way there are events that happen, some small, and this one NOT so small thing happens. What does he do? What does she do? Are the destined to fall prey to all the things trying to keep them apart? Do they rise above those things and have a happy ending? I would like to tell you, but I want you to read about all these things and smile, laugh, tear up just like I did. You will not be sorry you get this book and read it. I was unable to set it down once I started it. Awesome and fun book.
He is the exact public person I despise. You know the type -- all biblical with publicized praying and verses all over his public persona. Great. Good for you. Bet you're not like that behind closed doors...
Which is exactly what Esther thinks of him.
Saint and Esther attend the same super religious college. Esther is on the fast track to becoming a nun, and no I do not kid, and Saint, given name Francis, can do just about whatever he wants, because he is the star athlete and the school knows he has connections. What in the world can these two have in common? The actions of their parents.
But where Saint does what his father says, usually, because his father is pushing him toward a pro-football careers, Esther follows her parents (father) because if she didn't... Her life would literally be a living hell.
I really enjoyed these two, once we started to get to know Saint a little bit better. My only drawback with the book would be the last half goes by in super-fast time. While it helped to keep the story moving, I would have liked to see more of that time drawn out so the feelings and emotions of our two characters felt more genuine and real -- rather than simply a two month courting that their lives demanded.
I'm giving the book the full 5 stars because it came out of left-field for me. It was a book that I didn't expect to like, but the author wove it in a way that I fell hard for our characters both as individuals and as a couple. I liked watching Esther grow and find her voice in life, just as I liked watching playboy, always for the chase Saint, settle down and find a person to be terribly protective over. I loved him most in the last two chapters.
