Review
"It's a really well-written book, with some of the snappiest dialogue I've read in a long time. . . Mr. Wolfingbarger manages to include some real texture to his characters, which adds a level of emotional drama to an already interesting story." - Rose McClelland @ The Unbound Underground
"The author has delicately, and very adeptly, managed to balance a political thriller with some romance, avarice and a bit of comedy. . . It was a relishing read. . ." - IndianBookReviews.com
"THE DIRTY SECRET was fantastically written, halfway through it had me at a point that I just couldn't stop thinking about it...Wolfingbarger has created a thriller that kept me engrossed and intellectually stimulated..." - StoryWings.com

The Dirty Secret is a great novel that really grabs your attention from the get-go and really maintains that grip throughout its entirety. I love the characters and their development throughout the process of the main plot line. It made for some interesting character conversations and stories, as well as some interesting, and sometimes funny scenes late in the book.
One thing that hits you right off the bat is the sexuality that maintains a key role in one of the main character's story line. It's rather blunt and "in your face," so to speak, which I like rather than just dancing around the idea and being subtle about it like most authors are. Mr. Wolfingbarger makes no bones about the concepts of the sexual existence in politics; as we have seen as of late in the political realm that we are used to seeing exploded by the media. It truly does give you the perspective of a scandalous relationship from both sides of the situation and allows the reader to see just what can be gained from being involved in such a scenario.
Humor and love are two other key components showcased in this particular novel. Again, two main characters find themselves meeting and working together again after a once failed love attempt. Again, this makes for great character conversation and plot development. The humorous aspects are held within my personally favorite character Sheriff Vaughn of Pleasants County. While being the strong silent type, he offers up a true comic relief to the serious action taking place at times. His secrets are soon reveled in a rather exciting, yet still humorous way nearing the end of the novel.
Again, I thoroughly enjoyed this book that provides so much bang for the buck. Never have a read a novel that contained so many different literary aspects and storytelling lines/plots. Romance, adultery, deception, cheating, murder, and political aspects all tied into one. Some of the legal banter between characters can be daunting at times but, it's merely a small part of the larger picture; without it, it would be hard to follow some of the story line and the events leading to the ultimate actions of the book.
Story is fast paced, maybe too much so, but certainly a good yarn. It is not the great American novel, but not bad for a West Virginia boy. Recommended.
