Kincaid recently left military service in Scotland and is finding his way. He’s at the convention having a good time when he meets Mia. She immediately turns his world on its axis but he considers her just someone to desire from a far as she’s off to wherever and he’s headed back to Scotland and attempt to figure out his civilian life.
But, it’s never that simple. They connect first by email and then graduate to talking over the phone. He invites her to Scotland but that reeks of heavy ave serious and is that what Mia wants? Kincaid isn’t sure serious is for him either but he does know that she brings a lightness to him that’s missing. Can he convince her to stay visit and possibly stay?
I truly enjoyed this book. It’s layered and emotional but fun and silly. I particularly liked how Mia is black, it’s mentioned once or twice, but that it doesn’t become a ‘thing’ that’s discussed. It’s nice to read a book about faking in love where the two people are of a different race and race doesn’t have to be the primary obstacle.
My expectations were fairly high going in, perhaps that also shifted my read, will try this book again either way. Thanks for sharing your talent Ms. Blue.
For a Type-A, plan-every-detail person like me, spontaneous globe-trotting Mia was a fascinating heroine to read. I’m incredibly happy that the author made Mia into a fully-developed character when it would have been very easy to have her fall into the mold of a manic pixie dream girl. Mia’s motivations and internal conflicts are key in every decision she makes.
Kincaid is such a great hero. Hard on the outside, soft on the inside. His ability to read Mia and his active seeking of consent combine to make him one of the swoon-worthiest heroes I’ve read in 2018.
This story is filled with humor, passion, and quite a bit of sexual frustration as Mia and Kincaid are repeatedly interrupted mid-sexytimes by friends and family. But overall it really is a warm hug of a book and I highly recommend it.
If you love Scotland and want to spend a few weeks with a handsome hunk this is a great read. You won't be disappointed, other than a few typos this story is simply wonderful.

I just couldn't connect with either of the main characters. I had no empathy for Mia's choices or lifestyle, and found there was insufficient background on Kincaid to engage with him either. I kept reading after I had lost interest in the hopes it would improve, but finally gave up at 70%.
Shockingly bad impression of British/Scottish language and descriptions too.
