Like any Mickey Miller book, this is full of witty banter, dangerous situation, steamy sexy scenes, which I loved by the way. You can't go wrong with this read. Kelly, born into the Irish family and now running the family business.
Vince, Italian mob boss, CEO of Chicago. Kelly and Vince went to school together although a year apart. They had a crush on each other. This was before everything. Before Vince became the mob boss, before Kelly became the bookkeeper to her family's business. Before they knew that Irish and Italian didn't belong together. Full of action, suspense and of course steamy scenes.

This book wasn't anything special. I just could not like Kelly no matter how hard I tried. I wanted to. I really did but just couldn't in the end. There were so many things about her that just seemed fake and she was shallow. She basically looked down on Vince for his lifestyle but turned a blind eye to her family's. Which was the same as Vince's. How can someone be okay with it when it comes to their loved ones but not other people??? Just doesn't make much sense. She was spoiled and seemed to feel entitled. There are just too many things about her that I dislike that I can't possibly name them all.
As for Vince he was a bit more likeable but not by much. He didn't seem to be real mob boss material. He struggled with the things he had done and wanted peace but he just didn't seem hard core. I'm used to seeing total bad*** guys in his position and I just couldn't get over his weak demeanor. He also used far too many nicknames for Kelly and where that is good at times he just used them far too much. And the really bad part was that they were cheesy. * exasperated sigh *
We never got to really see the inner working of the mafia side of things with either family. It was always hearing about things that had happened – and not in any real detail – and hearing half*** plans on what to do. And again it wasn't in any real detail and no real planning.
There were just too many things that I disliked about this book. I'm so surprised that this book got all the four and five star reviews it did. I find myself wondering if I read the same book as those people. This book just didn't do it for me at all.
* NOTE – The reason I gave this book two stars instead of one is simply because there was effort put into it it. But unfortunately it just fell short *
But when tensions threaten to bubble over and leave the city covered in blood, how will these two bring a sizzling hot-bed of anger, prejudices, and violence down to room temperature and save the lives of the people closest to them?
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. It will make you giddy, cry your dang eyes out, and you'll need tissues for a couple of reasons...
With this being the re-release of this book, I got to read it again and enjoyed all the little changes that were added in. I can't rave enough about this book.
I HATE weak heroines and Kelly MacNamara is anything but weak! She's a spit fire with a brain and I flipping love it.
Vince....oh my stars..Vince. This man is a wonderfully perfect dream. He's my book husband, and I will fight for him. Lol. There are only two other characters I can say I'd really fight over, so that's saying something!
The only issue I originally had with this book was the descriptions/back story being a bit too long, but other than that it was perfect. And it is still perfect.
If it means anything to y'all, I even bought the paperback for the old version of this book (I don't buy a paperback unless I'm addicted to that book and plan to re-read it) , and I will be adding this version to my collection!
Props to the authors on a great story that sucks you in, and keeps you on your toes from start to finish. Now bring on the paperbacks! (Please) xD
"I'm not. I just don't want to have to hose your blood off the sidewalk."
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
I've read pretty much everything Mickey Miller has written - and I've loved them all. But, I have to say, Dirty CEO, co-written with Holly Dodd has got to be my favorite!
Kelly McNamara is back from college and expected to take her place in the family business - one that isn't quite on the up and up. She wants no part of it, and is biding her time until she can leave for California to pursue her real dream. She's tired of the endless rivalry and all-out war of hatred between her Irish family, and the Italians over control and territory. She's mapped out her escape - until the one man that can send her on a detour re-enters her life. Vince LaRosa. With their families at odds, can they finally put the blood-shed to an end together? Or will they end up as collateral damage in this endless war? When their plan turns a little to real, will it be her heart that ends up in sacrifice? If she's forced to choose, will she choose Vince or her family?
Vince LaRosa is known as the CEO of Chicago. He's got his hands in everything - from businesses, both legitimate and illegal, to politicians and law enforcement. His reputation of ruthlessness precedes him. His one soft spot is her. Kelly McNamara. Friends since they were kids, she was the one that almost WAS the one - and now she's back. He wants her, despite their feuding families. He wants to end this war, and soon. He's had enough. With a plan, can the two of them unite the two families at last? Will he finally be able to get what he's wanted all this time? When Kelly finally realizes what he's done, and how it has destroyed her family, can she ever forgive him?
I really enjoyed these characters. Vince is so bad, but he's so sexy. You can't help but see the man he hopes to become lurking somewhere in there, and how hard he is working to let him out. Kelly is both strong and vulnerable all at the same time. I loved the banter between these two, neither pulling punches, and pushing each other's buttons. And the steam? Holy hotness! I swear, my reading glasses fogged up more than once!!
This was a great story, with great characters, humor, suspense, secrets, love, friendship and more! I highly recommend this one!
