"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Pastor Toby, or “Padre” as he is called as he ministers, is part of a certified disaster team going around the world to bring comfort to those caught in horrific situations. Rather than chapters, the book is broken into “Reports”, small vignettes of the conditions in which he finds himself. Normal rules, protocols, practices are not applicable nor practical. The pastor’s actions and reactions as he struggles to bring consoling words to the afflicted in terrible situations give new understanding of both Toby and the terrible circumstances in our world.
The book begins with the question, “What would I have done?” and concludes with “I love disasters.” The author is not a tragic junkie, but attuned to the human cry, and through these cries he encounters divine interventions. Toby speaks of God telling him that he has only a little light, yet in the darkness of misery, that light shines bright.
Reading this book brings new appreciation for Toby and disaster teams. It shows God working in all circumstances, and without words, it demonstrates how much we have in comfort, safety, and material goods. Disaster Pastor is available through Amazon in either paperback or as a Kindle download. It was published in September, 2015.
