Assembly / Disassembly: Compared to a typical camping cot, these are time consuming to assemble and disassemble. It takes me about 15 minutes to assemble the beds and about 15 to pack them back up. By comparison, my inexpensive camping cots (not bunks) can be set up in less than a minute.
Comfort: My family finds these cots to be comfortable. They are similar to any stretched canvas type cot.
Design: For an expensive set of bunk beds, using lashing straps to hold the two bunks together seems cheesy. Other than the strap complaint, the beds are well built and sturdy. The storage pockets are very handy. There are three big patches of Velcro that attach the pockets to each bed.
Portability: The beds are heavy. Each bed packs into its own bag. I can only carry one bag at a time due to the weight.
So far we love these. Set up takes about 10-20 minutes and packing them up about the same. They are heavy! Its nice that they fit in the cases and you'd have no issue putting them in a trunk but they do take up some space. If you have to carry them up a few flights of stairs, it will be a work out, but one at a time any adult can get it done.
Yes, they are a little expensive but the construction is solid and unless a seem pops on the canvas, someone would have a difficult time breaking these.
I have one one complaint, the smell. Not sure why, they smell like grease a little. They have aired out some, but I would suggest maybe setting them up outside for a day, maybe overnight. It isn't bad but enough that the first 5-6 times we set them up you can smell them.
Overall great investment. They'd be great for camping and perfect for kids or adults staying as guest at friends or families houses.
The bunk design is flexible so that if you have the option of doubling your sleeping area, and it turns into a couch, I just treat that as an extra perk
