About the Author
Peter Cohan is Lecturer of Strategy at Babson College. He teaches strategy and entrepreneurship to undergraduate and MBA students at Babson College. He is the founding principal of Peter S. Cohan & Associates, a management consulting and venture capital firm. He has completed over 150 growth strategy consulting projects for global technology companies and invested in seven startups – three of which were sold for over $2 billion. Peter has written 11 books and writes columns on entrepreneurship for Forbes, Inc, and Entrepreneur. Prior to starting his firm, he worked as a case team leader for Harvard Business School professor Michael Porter’s consulting firm and taught at MIT, Stanford, and the University of Hong Kong. Peter earned an MBA from Wharton, did graduate work in computer science at MIT, and holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Swarthmore College.

The core framework in the book is far from overly complex - it is, in fact, conceptually very simple. It involves examining a firm from the 5 different company dimensions of Customers, Geographies, Products, Capabilities & Culture. The first section of the book goes through each of Cohan's "5 Dimensions of Growth", with Cohan not only providing a straightforward and intuitive explanation of each dimension, but also providing multiple case analyses of firms that have succeeded and firms that have failed in targeting growth from each of these dimensions. The second section involves more case analyses of what Cohan calls Growth Trajectories - when firms string together multiple growth strategies based on the 5 Dimensions of Growth. The book ends with a series of steps and key questions - arranged in a roadmap - to help the reader identify and implement the best growth strategy for them. Everything in the book makes intuitive sense, and the content is structured in a way that makes the reader consider the concepts being discussed in the context of their own personal case.
All in all, whether you are a small business owner or a hot-shot C-suite exec, I think this book delivers great value in giving its readers a solid analytical framework from which effective and healthy growth strategies can be developed. The entire book is easy to read, and Cohan's writing style is concise and filler-free. I am glad that I made this purchase and will be recommending this book to others.

Too often today’s management books prioritize entertainment and pontification over content that is easy to read and apply. Readers can be left wondering what lessons they can really apply. Professor Cohan’s book is entertaining, sure, but where it really shines is in its ability to help readers truly understand growth – one of (if not the) most important goals of today’s businesses.
