me, however, upon re-enrolling, I took a class that I knew would require reading and comprehension of scholarly material. Even though it was dense, it was intriguing and I found myself really being able to sink my teeth into the theories, as well as falling down a rabbit hole by reading essays and clicking through on topics. So, reading Discourses was really a treat. Being a little bit older than the rest of my fellow students, a lot of the topics discussed in this collection of essays really resonated with me because I completely, whole-heartedly shared a lot of the same sentiments about the black community, issues of self-worth and the obstacles that we face on a day-to-day, and also the type of things that we consume as black people. I watch a lot of these issues go over my fellow students head, and I genuinely notice the generational differences and the way the issues discussed in many of the essays effect us all.
