Clara Delancey is going through a very difficult time in her life. Everything in her life is subject to gossip and none of it good. Miss Clara DeLancey was once among the most eligible of London’s high society. Heartbroken, rejected and broke Clara moves from London to the quiet of Brighton to escape the scandal that has taken over her life.
When Captain Benjamin Kemsley meets Clara, he is not looking for a wife but he cannot turn his back on the penniless Clara DeLancey. Can he protect his heart and Clara too?
The book contains adventure, jealously, kidnapping, revenge and love. It has a lesson for us all about how God answers prayer, even the prayers that are left unspoken. When we hit rock bottom we need to call out to God and He is always there waiting for us with open arms.
The author has written a good clean romance book where the Christian faith is shown in a way most people can identify with. It is the third book of the “Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace” a series of books by Carolyn Miller. I can be read as a stand alone book, but I recommend reading the previous books to get the full impact of the series.
The author, Carolyn Miller, has created a list of discussion question that can be found on her website. These questions give the reader some things to think about after finishing the book. I love the little nuggets of insight these questions give the reader into the author’s thought process. This page also includes information about Brighton’s Royal Crescent, which was used as Clara’s home, which gives the reader more insight into the life of Clara DeLancey.
Set in London and Brighton, Ms Miller, transports you back to Regency England. You will find yourself lost in a story of redemption, love and answered prayer.
Check out the author’s website for most information on this and her other books, or get social on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Google+.
*Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of “The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey” from Kregel Publishing in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.
I enjoyed the story even though it was a slow start for me. It took a few chapters to become invested enough to want to continue on and see if Clara could regain her honorable standing in society and how that magnificent feat would be accomplished. Ben is a kind and noble man dealing with his own demons from the past.
The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey is full of intrigue, betrayal, jealousy, friendship, and love. With superb themes of grace and forgiveness, Miller brings the characters through emotionally trying circumstances to a realization that their pasts can be forgiven and there is a future filled with hope because of Christ.
If you are a fan of Regency or historical fiction with a solid faith theme, you will enjoy this offering from Miller who has a firm grasp on the era and presents it in fashion. I am quite happy to say there is another series coming in 2018 with more Regency Brides!
I received a copy of the book from Kregel Publication as part of blog tour participation. I was not required to write a review. No compensation has been received.
Clara DeLancey was forced to leave London after her honor was tainted by a very public scandal and returning has left her on the outskirts of society where she once was a very big part. Starting up a friendship with Captain Benjamin Kemsley and his sisters is bringing a healing to her heart and soul, but the friendship is concerning to her parents who see the Kemsley's societal standing lacking.
Benjamin isn't looking for a wife, but stumbling upon Clara has brought out not only feelings of protectiveness, but he finds himself quite enamored with her. Even so he has nothing to offer her because he is lacking in title and finances in which to support her so he wonders if he will ever have the support of her family where marriage is concerned.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
