The user panel is easy enough for a moderately skilled computer user. Not recommended for the oblivious, but you can have someone set it up if that's the case.
I look forward to setting up some virtual machines and testing those out.
PLEX APPROVED. This device resides on Plex's approved devices list. I stream 480p to 1080p using Plex and it works great. If you have a lot of interference in your house I would recommend hardwiring to the tv from the router with cat 6/7 Ethernet cables.
One more thing: other Plex approved NAS's that deliver hardware conversion for 1080p on the fly will easily top $1000 diskless.
If you love digital content and want it everywhere this is your kinda thing.
The major issue is the configuration and software. Getting this device setup is not very straightforward and the software that supports you in this effort is really bad. I could not get front USB copy function to work, I pushed the button as the guide suggests and the process would just spin doing nothing. I eventually just gave up on that and transferred everything manually over the apps the offer which again was not very consistent. Every time I would start a process it would put up a loading screen and no progress bar. After hours of waiting for some input I would just exit the process to then realize it had done something in the background but made no attempt to let you know if it was finished or still in progress. Sometime I would exit the process before it had a chance to finish.
There are so many better options out there now even if you want it to run plex hw transcoing. If I had the chance to do it again, I would have gone with the synology ds218+ which I have seen now offers plex HW transcoding.

My only gripe would be the user interface, it feels a little cold, closed, and constricted. So, if you want more functionality and a bit more robust UI I would look into Synology. I also use this as a Plex server and it works great.
☺ Ease of interface
☹ Very constricted UI
☹ Configurations & apps available
Overall: This is a very qualified little NAS unit. Recommended
I had a corrupted Windows install that required me to re-install the OS. I was able to download the drive (a SSD) but that was painfully slow and I had to re-start the process a few times. I decided bot to push my luck any further and get a proper back-up system.
I have it set up RAID1, doing a nightly back up from both my laptop and my desktop (the desktop has 2 drives) I was previously just manually backing up to an external portable HDD…but was never diligent enough to keep it current. I didn’t lose and valuable files (including family photos) but the chance that I may have was enough to get a proper system in place.
This NAS system is easy enough to setup once you find the correct source of info (learn.mycloud.com)…the included instructions are pretty light…and the software helpfiles look to be better suited for an IT expert ( the system is fully configurable)
I’m using it with WD Smartware (free for registered owners of the mycloud) It was very easy to setup the backups…and after a few trips to Google I was able to map the drive to my network…so it just operates like another folder.
Tip: I setup a separate folder on the mycloud that is shared by both the laptop and desktop…so file sharing just became a breeze. It’s part of the RAID setup…so that extra storage space also gets duplicated on the second drive (dual 8 terabyte drives)
• Easy to setup after some initial research.
• Available Software allows full flexibility on setting up how to use the available space, how to schedule backups, which version of RAID you want (or no RAID at all)
• Essentially runs itself after the initial set-up
• It’s a somewhat expensive once time purchase (but well worth it)
Recommendation – Would buy it again and would recommend.
