Stoneware insert: Solid black, 7 quart. Good size. According to the manual you can pretty much put it any kind of oven even the microwave variety. Without the lid of course. Dishwasher safe. Like it. Bigger stoneware insert = Lots more chili!
Cord: Could be a little longer.
Rubber feet: worked great, skid proof, no sliding around on your counter top.
5. Manual: They included one? I'm kidding. They included one but it didn't really give too much info except for preparing your slow cooker for use.
A. Make sure you wash the stoneware before use. Uh, huh.
B. Plug in the slow cooker to check the heating element. Just to make sure it heats up properly.
C. Make sure you don't submerge said heating element in water while plugged in. Etc. etc. Would've been nice if they include a recipe or two.
And with that being said, on to the cooking part...
Warm, Low and High: I've used a "crock pot" brand of slow cooker that has an electric timer and has low= 4-6 hours while the High = 8-10 hours. And turns itself to warm when the cooking time is done.
In my "crock pot" I've always done the low= 4-6 for soups and chilis. And used the high = 8-10 for stews and roasts. Most stew meat and roasts need a longer high heat to cook down and tenderize the meat. While soups and chilis don't need that same kind of heat or time to get the job done.
I pretty much applied that same thinking to this slow cooker. With the exception being I added more water.
A slow cooker that doesn't have an automatic timer to take it to a warming stage could possible cook all the liquid out of the stoneware. Therefore possibly burning the food and stoneware to boot.
I usually prep my roasts and stews the night before and just refrigerate everything in the stoneware. The morning of i take it out, set it up, plug it in, turn it on and let it go!
So, in conclusion, Low is great for soups and chilis while the high is better for roasts and stews. I've enclosed a lil pic of my white bean chili that came out delicious!! And making sure you have enough water in the stoneware while cooking roasts and stew meats to prevent any sort of scorching. Probably would've been a good idea to maybe include that in the manual.
So all in all, I give this slow cooker a 4.
Just based on the lack of a better manual, a longer cord and the warm, low and high not having a little timer.
Not happy. This is my second Pixar Slow Cooker in 8 months. I don't use it daily, but I use it often. The first one had a beveled part in side the heating part near a screw, it appears that they screwed it in too tightly. Last month I was cleaning the pot insert out and I noticed in side the heating base there was some kind of burnt food that had gotten inside...so curious me I checked it out then looked at the insert, HUGE crack all the way right down the same area that the burnt food was and the beveled part near the screw...one last time if this doesn't work I'm going to be very disappointed.
The stoneware insert is solid back and 7 quarts. I find this to be quite big and sturdy, you can easily fit just about anything. Unfortuntaely, despite the large size of the slow cooker, the cord is really short. I wish they would extend this by even a few more inches, just because I find it's a little too taut when plugged into my kitchen island outlet.
As for the actual cooking aspect of the slow cooker. This is a BASIC, NO FRILLS slow cooker, so if you're looking for something high-tech, I would suggest you pass. If you're looking for something fun and whimsical, I would highly recommend this!
There are three settings, Warm, Low, and High. I personally have always used all of my slow cookers, even my fancy ones, on lower settings, just because I can get the most juiciest of results. I basically pop some food in in the morning or the night before, head to bed/make my way to the kitchen 6-7 hours later, and everything is perfectly and evenly cooked!
