Doll looks ok. I got it for my daughter for Christmas. Definitely look closely because the tail doesn’t actually fit closely and will come off easily. But my daughter is a bit older so she won’t mind that at all.
To start with, Ariel was attached to the packaging like she was made of solid gold. It took forever to get her out, and when I did, I found that one of the plastic cords was actually attached through her head. I had to cut it down, but she still has the spikes of it on her head under her hair.
Once she was out, I could see the doll was very, very light and cheap feeling. She felt like a dollar store knock-off of a Barbie-type doll--stiff cheap plastic.
The big draw was supposed to be her fins, that come off in the water. This consists of a three part plastic fin setup. The sides of the body part of the fins push into a bottom fin, or they are supposed to. It took a lot of doing to get them all together and to put them on Ariel. They seemed to fit not just right. Once I did, I put her in the water and then lifted her out. This was supposed to make her shed her fins and have legs again, and it did, although it was basically just the fins falling off as they had about ten times when I put them on, so I don't think most kids would be too enchanted to see the same thing happen again.
My daughter did like the sparkly parts of this, the bottom of the fin and Ariel's bikini top. She also liked the flaming red hair, although I thought it was a little overdone.
I think this is a case where your child's imagination would be far better than using this doll to see Ariel transform. Not recommended.
