I purchased this movie mainly just to add another 3D title to my movie collection. So needless to say, I had it for quite a while before ever viewing it. But now, after viewing this movie, I wish I had watched it sooner! I found the movie very well done. The story line was entrancing and at times a real treat. I would consider this to be a great movie for the entire family, although the very young ones at around 6 or younger might find it a little frightful at times. Also I must add, this movie would be enjoyable any time of the year!
The 3D aspect was done very well. I have seen better but by no means was this done poor. There where a few times when the 3D was a little underwhelming, and I may have noticed a slight ghosting here and there (notice the pun there ;) LOL) But all in all a pretty decent 3D rendering is what you can expect. Please keep on mind that not all 3D Televisions are made the same and some 3D TV's just aren't very good at rendering decent 3D. Luckily we have one of the good 3D TV's. So when a great 3D movie is played on our television, it is a very special treat, as we can expect it to play just about as good as the theatre can provide us. I have a large collection of 3D films and have viewed most of them, so please trust my advice when I say that this particular 3D movie is a good one.
I will sum this review up with this advice. If you are at all on the fence about whether you should buy this movie or not, I would suggest you do, and enjoy it.
I know we sure did!
It will not replace the more accurate Alastair Sim version. Now if we could have an accurate 3D version with a strong flavor of the original drawings, that would be wonderful. I did like the depiction of the Ghost of Christmas future, but I would have preferred Scrooge clutching him and having him turn into the bed curtains, rather than tumbling Scrooge. The ides of having Scrooge travel looking through the floor of his room was very nice, but it kept the ghost and Scrooge a bit distant from the action. So the ghost could not sprinkle the food of the poor.
