This book was a unique spin on the supernatural/paranormal reverse harem genre. Iphigenia is a witch in a world full of other supernaturals, such as shifters and vampires, that somewhat coexist with humans. Iphi is the youngest of three girls, and the only daughter who hasn't left their overbearing mother yet. At twenty years old, the empath feels that she is needed at home and cannot leave her mother alone. But, other than her aerial job at the circus, Iphi feels unfulfilled in life.
After meeting four guys, a vampire and his shapeshifting cousins, she finally starts to branch out and feel accepted by others. When she is targeted by a rogue vampire the guys are there to help, but even though they're keeping secrets, Iphigenia seems to have a handle on the situation.
This book was a great introduction to the trilogy. We meet most of the main characters, the villain still seems to be somewhat unknown, and Iphi is starting to build relationships with some of the guys. While, with this book, she is only intimate with two of them, we can already see her feelings for the other two developing.
I can't wait for book 2!
The grandson of her mother's lover, Reese, meets Iphi when he helps his grandfather move in. He lives in a place called the Grove with his three cousins, they are all involved in some way with the local police department. Their reason for moving to The Edge was to find out what has happened to Reese's brother Nolan, for this they need Iphi's help.
During the course of this book, Iphi comes into her own as a woman and begins to see just how much she has allowed her mother to control her life. She develops feeling for all four of the men living in the Grove and when things come to a head and her safety is threatened she moves into one of the tiny houses there.
I can't really tell you anymore with giving away too many spoilers but what I will say is that in this first book of this series Iphi takes two of the men as her lovers but has strong feelings for the other two - what is going to happen next I wonder?
There are a lot of questions left hanging at the end of this book, but we did know going in that there would be so that's OK, I just need to wait now for the next book to be released.
I do own and have read the ebook of this story but I wanted to listen to it too as personally, I get more out of an audiobook, so when I was given a copy of this book as I gift I was thrilled. The audio version did not disappoint it is narrated beautifully by Alexander Cendese and Carly Robins who bring just the right feel to the story.
This review is written voluntarily.
The men are quite intriguing. I am interested in learning more about their back story together and how everything fits together with Nolan and The Puppeteer. Each man has such sexy, strong, endearing qualities.
Fabulous start to this series. I a reading this a while after it has come out, and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to read book 2.
The MC is a haunted soul, always thinking of others above herself. With a domineering mother who controls almost every aspect of her life she has little freedom except for her circus act.
When she meets the male characters she starts to realize that she is more than she thinks she is. I really loved the males with their very distinctive personalities. All of them are strong males that love her deeply even if some of them can't show it.
For fans of reverse harem stories and romance in general this is a must read.
