They were both hard to put down. It is a lot of fun. Lots of classical sci-fi echos but interesting new stuff. Intrigue. Double crosses. Bad guys and gals. Good guys and gals. The books had nice pacing so they both moved well and all the sub plots evolved together. Nice job.
I now await the next one but grabbed the first one back from the wife...so there!
I read the first Distant Star and I would have eventually purchased the second because of how good the first was. But I'm glad I didn't have to because my to read list is so long who know when I would have ever gotten around to it. And this book is definitely worth buying. The characters and interpersonal relationships are really what shine here. The science fiction aspect of the book is in some ways merely a vehicle for showing off the characters interaction. If that sounds like a bad thing I apologize because it most certainly isn't. There are some very interesting sci fi ideas throughout the book. There is plentiful and well done action and indeed the book moves very quickly. As in the first book this is not a story of the world coming to an end if the protagonist does not succeed and I appreciated that. However my one and only knock on the book is that I didn't feel like this one had a central struggle or climax as it were. There were a lot of things going on and there were bad guys to fight, I just didn't feel like I knew what the main conflict in the book was. Regardless I thoroughly enjoyed this and if you have the chance you should certainly pick it up. I eagerly await the next installment.
