I must admit that it took me no time at all to become addicted to 'The Divide'. As soon as I started to read that was it, I just knew that I wouldn't be able to put this book down. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. The book wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I immersed myself so deeply into the story that I managed to cut out all other distractions and focus on the story. I must admit that every so often I felt like diving to hide behind a cushion after I had read something scary. 'The Divide' certainly isn't a book that you should read last thing at night before you go to bed, as it would be liable to cause some pretty weird and wonderful dreams! I am just a scaredy cat! I soon raced my way to the end of the book. This was one of those gripping, unputdownable reads that had me on the edge of my seat throughout (well when I wasn't hiding behind a cushion that is).
'The Divide' is superbly written but then I think that to be true of all of Stewart's books. He initially grabs your attention from an eye catching synopsis and then much like a fisherman reeling in a catch Stewart reels you in. Escape then becomes impossible- not that I would want to escape. I felt as though I was part of the story itself and that's thanks to Stewart's fabulously vivid and realistic storytelling.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Divide' and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will be reading more of Stewart's work in the future, which knowing how quickly Stewart Giles writes will probably be some time next week! The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
