Sloane's a$$hat of a cheating husband is history and she's ready to start over, but she never expected to get propositioned by her newly appointed divorce attorney. The moment she saw him at his desk with glasses, suspenders, and a sexy bow tie, she's a goner. It's too soon to start dating, right? I mean she just got divorced and needs to finish grad school and work two jobs. But her friends say to have fun and go for it. He's more mature than her ex and exudes confidence which means experience in areas she is lacking. But he would be a rebound and she has a problem keeping her feelings out of a relationship. She's not a love 'em and leave 'em type. He's so appealing and so spontaneous and not like anyone she knows. But speaking from experience there is always a wrench in every relationship. And the wrench in this one is a doozy and unexpected. Can Sloane get past Carter's transgression, or will it be over before it started?
I absolutely love Melanie Munton's writing style. She makes me laugh, cry, and feel like I need to take a cold shower every time I pick up one of her books. Her characters are always sassy and strong and are not ashamed to show their vulnerabilities. Okay. So Sloane made a bad choice the first time around. She was young and naive and it happens to all of us. However, she needs to give herself credit for working her way through grad school and wanting to be a professor. That takes maturity and perseverance and I only wish I had the confidence she has at 23 years old. As for the yummy Carter Van Gordon. The man is so sexy and charming, and I fell for him the minute he walked into The Suckling Pig where Sloane works and crooked his finger at her. Holy cow! As for his past, my heart broke for him and it only made him even more human and endearing to me. The supporting characters of Sloane's friends, Gretchen, Harper, and Quinn are a great addition and made me laugh so loud that my partner thinks I'm crazy!
Again, I can't recommend Melanie Munton enough and this sexy and captivating romcom is my favorite so far. If you like immersing yourself in a fun, LOL provocative romance with characters you'll never forget, give this book a try. Oh, and as someone who used to live on a golf course, I'll never look at a tool shed the same again. ;)
Thank you to Ms. Munton once again for giving me the opportunity to review this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Sloane arrives at her attorney's office to finalize her divorce dressed in her work clothes making her look like a wench only to find her attorney has gone into labor early and she gets passed off to another attorney. She's distressed to say the least, she wants this over and done and when she meets her new attorney well.... this is where we get our first peek at Carter Van Gordon. Complete with bow tie, rolled up shirt sleeves and in the name of all things holy, suspenders! He's the quintessential southern gentleman, charming, polite and scrappy! Carter assures Sloane he can handle her case after the two spend a few minutes getting acquainted, she explains the outfit and he does a bang up job putting her ex and his attorney is their respective places.
Carter shows up at Sloane's job and begins his subtle/not so subtle pursuit of Sloane. Sloane has a few misgivings about Carter, one being the difference in their ages, her own feelings of not trusting her own judgment and her desire to finish school, some issues from her own past. Her brief marriage totally derailed anything good for her. But Carter is good for Sloane in many ways including that dirty mouth of his and wow did I ever want my chance to snap that man's suspenders!
The story has great depth, the characters are well developed and a great plot and subplot. Melanie did something some authors fail to do is tell a great story while being so stinking hot your panties melt.
This is a must read, great characters, twists and turns, set in one of my favorite places, all it was missing was a low country boil. Actually it did have that, not just the food variety... It is enough to say I loved Carter and his dirty mouth and Sloane!
A total 5 shooting star read for me.
Thank you Melanie!
