I bought these for my classroom, where there are some small hands writing, and some recent imigrants from "conflict" zones around the world. Some students find writing difficult, some find writing unfamiliar these pencils help to ease the students into the process of writing. And, at the end of a busy grade recording session, I find these pencils a bit more comfortable to the arthritic hands, so I secret a couple for myself. I find the triangular shape directs the fingers, young and old, to the most comfortable, least stressful grip of the pencil.

Ticonderoga pencils are a great quality and I enjoy using them, but there are many different kinds available for sale on Amazon. Which one should you buy? Recently I have become a big fan of the tri-writes because they are more ergonomic and they tend to not roll off surfaces as much. But if you search for tri-write, there are at least four different pencils, all a bit unique. My First Tri-Write, I've found, is the largest pencil Ticonderoga makes. This large, triangular pencil did not fit in the larger opening on my Staedtler small, manual, hand-held, pencil sharpener. I was surprised by this because the large, round circumference My First Ticonderoga DID fit with this same sharpener. I was able to use the bonus sharpener included free in another package of the Tri-Conderoga Black Soft Touch Finish pencil. This is an extra large pencil so be wary of pencil sharpener compatibility. Otherwise, this is a great writing implement, especially for children learning to write.

My kindergartner was having a really hard time grasping the primary size cylindrical pencils during homework time. We spent more time working on his grasp than doing homework. He did better with the large triangular crayons, so I decided to order these (though I did not need 36 of them!). The grasp seems to come natural when holding these pencils, because we haven't had to work on grasp once since changing to these pencils. The trick is finding a pencil sharpener that is large enough for them. We have tried several and the best I have found is the Staedtler(R) 2-Hole Metal Pencil Sharpener. The Maped Croc-Croc 2-Hole Pencil Sharpener with Expandable Canister also works and is my son's favorite (he can work it by himself). I wish these pencils came in smaller packs (I looked but didn't find any). However, they have improved homework time so much, that I have to give them five stars.

I was laughed at for using these pencils... as I'm a middle school principal!!! Now my assistant uses them and so does the other middle school principal! Easy on the hands! Very legible - dark, bold graphite! Fun to use and express ideas. Would recommend to others... even high school principals :-)!

These are good, sturdy pencils.
I was, however, under the impression that they were a true triangle shape which would prevent them from rolling. They ended up having rounded edges and continued to roll right off the table.

The company should make the pencils thicker. Since it was labeled "My First" I thought it would be thick like the kindergarten pencils. I hope they make a triangular pencil without an eraser or a thicker pencil in the future. Excellent brand.

Awesome pencils! I was hesitant to purchase these initially because they were so much more expensive than regular pencils, but my 3 year old was begging for pencils so she could practice her ABCs and our preschool teacher recommended these. These are the perfect shape for chubby little hands. She had a hard time holding a regular thin pencil and would get frustrated when it would slip out of her hands. These fit her perfectly and she's able to draw and write very comfortably.

They also last forever. Even with her pressing hard, the lead never breaks. We bought this box over a year ago and are still on our second or third pencil since the lead never breaks. I can see this lasting forever.

I am a fabric hand cutter in a furniture upholstery plant and use pencils quite a lot in marking. I have found these pencils
hold up well under daily use. The round beginner pencil by the same company does not have the same quality. The lead
breaks easily in them and I use them up so rapidly. For whatever reason the lead in these pencils seem to be of a stronger
quality and seem to mark darker. The triangular shape is a real plus when you use them daily.
