While I read and study a lot of books about religion, this was a definite game changer. How so much could come out of one commandment is just unbelievable. I admit, while I know all the commandments, I used the short version of the forth - Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. I knew there was more but certainly never analyzed what it meant.
Of course in this day and age most of us feel that if we attend church on a regular basis, we feel that we have the Sabbath covered. Not so, there is a lot going on in that Bible verse and Andrew Gilmore, breaks it down to the basic meaning, then tells us why and what he means. I definitely have a new perspective on the 4th Commandment and I sincerely thank the author for writing in such a personal and involved way. I learned a lot and that's what Bible study is all about. I highly recommend this book, it will make you change your life and how you view the Sabbath.
a commandment I had never given much thought to. Andy Gilmore has really shed new and insightful light into this commandment and I will never overlook it again.
Years ago I decided to follow this practice. At first I feared what would happen to the things I thought were necessary to get done. Taking that day off to rest never ended up being a problem and things always worked out. After twenty five years of honoring a day of rest, I cherish the day and I'm always refreshed, better for it. I find I'm more motivated to do my work and am more productive in my work.
I've found that when I follow God's wisdom, I always find that it's in my best interest. Solomon, one of the wisest men who lived said of wisdom, "Her ways are pleasant ways and all her paths are peace." Proverbs 3:17(NIV) I have found this to be true about wisdom. Honoring a day of rest is one of wisdom's best ideas. :-)
If you don't follow the practice of a day of rest, I urge you to start doing it because you'll find you're more productive after resting. This book will give you insights, support and guidelines. The book is also clear, well written and easy to understand. I recommend it.
