'Do You Promise Not to Tell? The Final Story of the Official George Harrison Fan Club' is the sequel to Pat Kinzer Mancuso's first book 'Do You Want to Know a Secret? The Story of the Official George Harrison Fan Club'. The OGHFC was ended abruptly in 1972 when the Beatles decided to shut down all of their fan clubs as the band broke-up in 1970. Pat's fan club newsletter was sighted as the reason as George did not like some of the content. George had given Pat permission to run this fan club by signing the fan club's charter several years prior. Pat was devastated by this accusation and tried for the next 5 decades to find out why. After the first book was published, she was able to put all the pieces together. The second book reveals what apparently happened all those years ago, plus incorporates stories of Pat's life.

Even though I lived part of this adventure with the author, her storytelling is top notch. It brought back memories while giving me insight into the "whys" I've often wondered about. "Do You Promise Not To Tell?: The Final Story of the Official George Harrison Fan Club" is a very entertaining and informative read about the 60's, the British Invasion and one person's incredible journey through it all. Pat Mancuso tells the story of how she became a fan of the Beatles and was the president of George Harrison's official fan club. Her journey takes you to Beatles concerts, London, Liverpool - you name it! Along the way, Pat tells you all about the music that inspired her and her life story - which is very interesting! Reading her book is like sitting down and having a chat with a friend. While I don't want to give much away, I will say that if you are a fan of the Beatles, George Harrison and even Peter and Gordon, you'll be glued to this story as much as I was! Bravo, Pat!

Title is extremely misleading. If you are looking for a book about a fan's unrelenting desire to see Peter & Gordon across the US and into Canada, then this is perfect for you. At times the book was enjoyable, but I was put off by the author's constant criticisms of others (both musicians and fans) who dared to disagree with her.

Ähnlich wie es Pat in Amerika beschreibt, entbrannte auch in der DDR in den 60iger Jahren eine leidenschaftliche Begeisterung für die Beatles. In der DDR war aber englischsprachige Rockmusik negativ besetzt und stand für Rebellion, lange Haare und Krawall. Für uns aber waren sie Helden, war ihre Musik aus dem Radio Ausdruck auch unseres Lebensgefühls. Musik kann man fühlen, sie verbindet und inspiriert Menschen, ist eine universelle Sprache über Mauern und Grenzen hinweg. Die Musik der Beatles revolutionierte die Musiklandschaft und war eine Offenbarung für uns.

Genauso wie Pat es in ihrem Buch beschreibt, hat auch uns die Beatles-Musik berührt und verzaubert. Wie eine Chronistin verbindet sie in ihrem zweiten Buch Do You Promise Not To Tell das Ende des offiziellen „George Harrison Fan Clubs" mit ihrer eigenen Lebensgeschichte. 7 Jahre hat sie als Präsidentin des „Offiziellen George-Harrison-Fan-Clubs“ die kleine gleichgesinnte Community durch den von ihr recherchierten, erstellten und verschickten Newsletter („The Harrison Herald“) zusammengehalten. Fotos und neueste private Nachrichten über die Beatles, besonders über George und seine Familie, zeugten immer von Verantwortung und einer besonderen Liebe. Beeindruckend mit welchem persönlichen Einsatz und Unterstützung ihrer Familie und Freunde sie bis 1972 für den Fan-Club arbeitete und wie diese Arbeit auch ihr gesamtes weiteres Leben beeinflusste.

1969 sponserte der Fan-Club über eine Kinderhilfsorganisation eine Patenschaft für ein thailändisches Mädchen, an dessen Entwicklung der ganze Fan-Club über den Newsletter Anteil nahm. Die Musikbotschaft der Beatles, ihre humane Lebensphilosophie, Liebe in der Welt zu verbreiten (All you need is love), nahm dadurch ganz konkrete Gestalt an. Nach der Auflösung des Fan-Clubs 1972, unterstützte Pat und ihr Mann Toni ganz privat die Patentochter, sorgte für ihre Ausbildung und holte sie 1979 in die USA. Damit hat Pats Begeisterung und Engagement für die Beatles dazu beigetragen, einem Kind eine bessere Zukunft zu ermöglichen und die Welt ein bisschen besser gemacht. Dieses Buch sollten Beatles-Fans unbedingt lesen.
