Do You Want to Know a Secret? is the story of the Official George Harrison Fan Club, the only independent fan club sanctioned by one of the Beatles. A 16 year old when it all started, Pat ran into many problems with the Beatles organization, and became friends with George’s family before it all ended abruptly in 1972. Along the way, Pat made many life-long friends and took the fan club’s sponsored child from Thailand into her own family. Pat spent many years trying to uncover the “Secret” of why George and the Harrison Family eventually shut her out of their lives. Rare photos taken by the author.

Pat Kinzer Mancuso was the President of the Official George Harrison Fan Club from 1964 to 1972. A former long-time secretary, Pat is now an Independent Contractor for Odyssey Travel, specializing in trips to Disney locations and England Beatles sites. She lives in Trappe, Pennsylvania with her husband, Tony, and two cats, Eboni and Ivory. She enjoys writing, traveling, scrapbooking, volunteering for the elderly, and attending Beatles-related concerts with her friends.

I enjoyed this wonderful little book very much. If you take pleasure in books like Waiting for the Beatles: An Apple Scruff's Story , and We're Going to See The Beatles!: An Oral History of Beatlemania as Told by the Fans Who Were There , that are written from the point of view of a first generation fan, then you will be very happy to read this. Pat made the Beatlemania years come alive and I re-lived them through her eyes. Her recollections of their mid 60's concerts and what it was like at that time, to be a young teenaged girl in love with the Beatles, were so much fun to read. I was especially surprised by her anecdotes about Lucy Johnson (President Johnson's 15 year old daughter). I never realized she was such a rabid Beatle fan. The story of Lucy trying to break into the Beatles' hotel room with a bunch of Secret Service agents chasing her to get her away from her heart throbs was very amusing. No sooner would they chase her back to her own room, then she would be on the loose again, with her long suffering protectors trailing after her. I wondered though, since she was the president's daughter, why it wasn't arranged for her to have a special meeting with them. Aside from that however, I really enjoyed reading about Ms Kinzer-Mancuso's love for George Harrison and her closeness to the Harrison family. It brought them into focus for the first time, and I was delighted not only by them, but also the palpable love and pride they had for George. I was also moved by Pat's story because although so many wonderful things came out of her love for George, like sponsering the little girl from Thailand, her devotion did ultimately end in heart break. My heart went out to her of course, but also to George. Obviously the entire thing was a big misunderstanding and it made me realize just what those four, extremely talented, fellows went through every day, and the emotional price they paid for their soul crushing fame. Thank you Pat for sharing your story with us.
