This book had a profound impact on the me. I feel like my past failures were explained. I feel like my past successes were explained. I feel like, for the first time, I truly understand why I quit nearly everything I start and why I can feel invincible in my endeavors one day and completely defeated the next - and I feel equipped to do it differently now.
It is going to sound fake but it isn't -
since reading this book:
I have stuck to my diet
I have taken on some major clients/projects at work
I have watched a LOT less TV and have determined to do what it takes to get my work done for the day
I have been able to defeat the dragon more consistently than ever before.
I am SO glad I read this book. SO glad. This book ranks up with a handful of books that I have read in my life as LIFECHANGERS. This one has been a catalyst for me. You may not have the same experience - but I honestly want to tell everyone I know - Read this book. And then read it again. I am going to have my 17yo read this book over the summer even thought it has some profanity which I am not thrilled with. If it didn't have it - I would have my 11 year old read it as well. Instead, I will just teach him the concepts within the book. They are going to help me in my business this summer and I want them to learn these principles and to master the ability to DO THE WORK.
Good book. Quick read. For when need a shot of some motivation, some help from outside your own world, I recommend this.
Aside from being a great storyteller, Pressfield has written several exceptional books on working in the creative arena. His The War of Art is a classic book on going to war with the most terrifying enemy, the blank page or canvass. He talks a lot about the discipline of creativity How to live the life you are seeking
work on my new projects.
Here are three of my favorite brief passages that I have liberated from the book.
"The three dumbest guys I can think of:
Charles Lindbergh, Steve Jobs, Winston Churchill.
Why? Because any smart person who understood
how impossibly arduous were the tasks they had
set themselves would have pulled the plug
before he even began."
"Ignorance and arrogance are the artist's
and entrepreneur's indispensable allies.
She must be clueless enough to have no
idea how difficult her enterprise is going
to be -- and cocky enough to believe she
can pull it off anyway."
"A child has no trouble believing the unbelievable,
nor does the genius or the madman. It's only
you and I, with our big brains and our tiny
hearts, who doubt and hesistate [and don't even begin]."
In short, this book is metaphysical, inspirational, and motivational. Of course, like most books of this nature, it will help those who least need the advice in it. At the same time, the people who most need to follow the advice in this book will critisize both the author and the book, and continiue on with their lives blaming society, the government, corporations, etc. for their lack of success and satisfaction in their lives.
In short, this world is divided into individuals who talk big about getting things done and those who actually do things in a big way. Ensure, if you can, to belong to the latter. There's far less competition and the rewards are much greater. Steven Pressland's "DO THE WORK!" will help you join the club who get things done in a big way.
