The paper is heavier than most "normal" pad and sheet paper. It takes the ink of the fountain pen beautifully, and the pen also flows over it smoothly (I use fine, extra fine, and music nibs). Lighter-weight and/or cheaper-made paper often catches the pen and causes it to skip around. The stiff backing helps a lot as well, and writing on the pad is a comfortable experience from the first sheet (with all that nice support of the other pages underneath it) to the final sheet that has that gloriously heavy backing sheet under it.
I am not a fan of gummed pads because paper becomes dislodged from them too easily. I prefer this style, and the microperforations in this tear easily and, unlike so many other perforated papers, it actually tears on the perforations.
Lastly I shall offer my elitist favoritism toward narrow ruled. I don't know how people can write on wide ruled - I always feel like I ought to be using one of those 1/2 inch thick pencils we had to use in elementary school. And please allow me one social rant: why, office supply stores, is it sooooooooo difficult to find decent paper that isn't wide-lined?Read more ›
I also like the nice stiff backing, you don't necessarily need a clipboard etc. when standing to write. I can carry around loose sheets folded up in my pockets for weeks and they are still in great shape.
Good stuff. wish they were a bit less expensive, but hey, what are you gonna do?
Second, the ink bleeds, and I'm not talking about the ink from your pen. The ink from the red lines on the page bleeds onto the other pages. You'll be writing notes over red smudges.
I'd give this one star, but the paper itself is thick and quality. It's just the design of the pad that is awful.
I've included a picture of what the pad actually looks like after being used for a few days.

Love this paper because my fountain pens don't leak through when I write on it.
Arrived on time and in good condition.
I write quite a bit and then have to scan and save to a pdf file to email to clients. This paper is the best I have come across. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Amazon Customer
I really like these pads. The cardboard backing is thick and firm making it easy to write on these anywhere. The quality of the paper is very good.Published 7 months ago by MG
As others have mentioned, the quality and consistency of this paper has dropped. I use extra fine nibs, and even two years ago this paper produced excellent, reliable ink capture... Read morePublished 8 months ago by Keith Howarth
