About the Author

Since 1979, Larry Altshuler, MD, has practiced medicine as a board-certified internist. Additionally, Dr. Altshuler is an expert in integrative medicine, with extensive training and experience in acupuncture, hypnosis, mind-body medicine, Western and Chinese herbology, and nutrition. He conducts research in low-level energy lasers, pain syndromes, acupuncture, and other integrative medicine practices. Dr. Altshuler currently serves as Director of Oncology Intake and as an internist and hospitalist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Altshuler has published four books, including Balanced Healing: Combining Modern Medicine with Safe and Effective Alternative Therapies, which was awarded the USA Book News “Best Book 2004” in the health category. Dr. Altshuler is the author of numerous scientific articles on alternative medicine and acupuncture. He lectures extensively to public and professional groups and frequently appears on both regional and national television and radio programs.

I got both of the "Dr. Say What?" books by Dr. Altshuler and I am really glad I did. I try to really minimize my participation in the "health-industrial complex" (!) and have tried to keep myself health with diet and alternative medicine for most of my adult life. Unfortunately, as I age, conditions somewhat beyond my control do come up, and it's hard to find a physician who won't go right for the most intense pharmaceutical or invasive/surgical treatments to try to "fix" or even "manage" things. I so appreciate Dr. Altshuler's approach because I feel like he has all the benefit of medical training, as well as a hefty knowledge and respect for alternative treatments. I feel like he is telling me the truth about what I can expect, and do, for my different health conditions. This book, and its companion volume, have allowed me to feel like I have a new, knowledgeable, member of my health care team ~ one who offers me far more options for health!

Easy to read and understand, Really helpful! Dr. Altshuler's ability to make complicated stuff understandable helped a lot in taking the mystery out of medicine. He isn't afraid to explain the use non-traditional medicine as part of care.
